Beginner Guitarist Discussion
Hi
Following on from the great feedback I got on my last thread I decided to start a thread so that all beginners have a place to get together and share advise on improving. Hopefully some advanced players can drop in to give us a hand as well! To get us started - what's a good first song to learn? |

First few songs I learned were 'House of the Rising Sun', 'Smoke on the Water' and 'No Remorse'.

With all the lovely weather we've been having, I think some classic reggae is probably best.
Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0prhT9PzpcE Just three chords to start off, but you can make it a bit more complicated later. But the very first song I learned to play on the guitar was Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. |

DIdn't see your other thread but it's not clear what you're trying to achieve, acoustic, classical, folk or something with an amp that'll make your granny shit herself.
However as with most instruments, blues is a good place to start. |

Once I'm competent enough I'll probably move onto heavier stuff (The Who, Led Zep, The Stones etc). Baby steps

After my bit in the other forum though I would just jump in and give you a link that every learner should have.
Even after learning countless piano and guitar chords I find this one helpful for chord look-ups. ![]() http://www.8notes.com/ |

How long did everyone take to get upto around 60 chord chances per minute.
I'm nearly upto 30 - nowhere near fast enough to put a song together! |
