BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Mark Chapman has tweeted a criticism of the 5 Live twitter feed:

Quote:
“whoever is tweeting on behalf of @bbc5live this afternoon, completely out of touch with what is being said on air by our commentators”

This is what was said on the 5 Live feed about Italy v Spain at half time...

Quote:
“And given our current record in #Euro2012, when should we comment on it being a dull match to prompt a goal? Now? #BBCfootball”

Is he right to criticise publicly?

RTE 2FM are not carrying their own countries matches on satellite due to rights restrictions, and are playing non stop music instead.

Suprised at that

Perhaps the costs were too much for the number of people that would listen via satellite?

Absolute Radio 90s are providing alternative comedy commentary from Andrew Maxwell. No talkSPORT circa 2002 esque pre-recorded ground bed which may make normal listeners think WTF is this as it's just him and another bloke in a studio.

I doubt anyone is listening.

I wanted to listen to Absolute's commentary on DAB and did listen to a bit of it, but the commentary was very loud so I had to turn the radio down. Why is it so loud compared to TS and 5 Live?

because Jim Proudfoot likes shouting? seriously I often notice that the TS and Absolute commentary is louder than that of 5live. that volume control is a wonderful invention...

Absolute Radio always appears to be much louder than other stations whether music or football. I really have to turn it down when tuning in on DAB or digital TV.

Five Live have taken Richard Bacon and drive out of the schedule today in favour of build-up to the England match with Chappers, Motty and Savage.

It's sounding very good, Chappers is handling discussing serious news (Levson) very well at different points and despite perhaps being past it as a commentator Motty is a great addition to a show like this and personally (maybe because I'm welsh?) I think Savage is one of the better ex pros on the radio. Top job!

BBC should have stuck with the tennis.

This is where competition gives you less choice with 5 live terrified people will switch to Talksport or Absolute.

I have listened to two radio commentaries so far - the two Ian Danter has done for talkSPORT (Spain v Italy because I was travelling and unable to watch the game; Netherlands v Denmark because I didn't rate the TV commentary team working on that one).

In past tournaments I have watched the odd game with a radio commentary rather than the TV feed - usually that of talkSPORT, although I sometimes would utilise the BBC Red Button option of a 5 Live commentary on occasions when that was available and may opt for Absolute this time around as I rate Jim Proudfoot and Tony Dorigo - mostly for BBC TV games when Jonathan Pearce or Steve Wilson are commentating, neither of whom I particularly enjoy listening to. I rate few of the television co-commentators working on Euro 2012; none of the BBC's quartet are favourites of mine and Craig Burley on ITV annoys me, so that may play a factor too.

For the benefit of people who are interested in this sort of thing, Alistair did the opening leg of each half with Conor (sorry to be pedantic Col, but his first name is spelt with one 'n') doing the anchor legs.

Don't worry about it - and a belated happy birthday for the weekend.

talkSPORT

Mark Saggers presenting Euro 2012 Live followed by Call Collymore - live from the Donbass Arena in Donetsk.

Euro 2012: Group D
France v England - Sam Matterface and Stan Collymore, with John Anderson reporting (17:00 commentary)
Ukraine v Sweden - Ian Danter and Micky Quinn (19:45 commentary)

Adrian Durham will present Euro 2012 Live from Warsaw following the conclusion of the post-match phone-in at around 19:40.

Absolute Radio

Russ Williams presenting Euro 2012 Rock & Roll Football Live with Ian Wright and Perry Groves.

Euro 2012: Group D
France v England - Jim Proudfoot and Tony Dorigo (17:00 commentary)

There's "alternative" commentary on Absolute Radio 90s with Alun Cochrane and Andy Zaltzman.

I'm not sure if John Anderson's reporting role will be that of the usual "pitchside reporter" - clearly he's not going to be on the touchline due to UEFA rules - but when they spoke with him early he was in the stands assessing the conditions. Would be good if someone could clarify whether they call upon him during the match.

Ian Wright and Ian Stone are presenting on Absolute Radio right now, they are scheduled to be doing so right up until 5pm although presumably Russ and Perry will come in at least five minutes prior to kick-off.

It appears that only Jim Proudfoot is at the Euro 2012 games for Absolute Radio - this shows that Tony Dorigo is back in the UK: https://twitter.com/simoncrosse/stat...12689278210050

Would have preferred Gray on this for TS as opposed to Collymore who just gets irritating, still he's much much better than Robbie Savage in a similar role

Yes, they've got an unusual set up where Proudfoot is doing play by play before handing over to Dorigo to 'summarise' during breaks in play.
