Thanks for posting those details. Before seeing them I'd have predicted they'd be doing at least one game on top of the England v Italy match with a two commentator set-up in order to give all six of their commentators at least one quarter-final each, so that they have reverted back to the two commentator set-up yet Alistair Bruce-Ball isn't getting a quarter-final does seem on the face of it quite harsh on Alistair.
I guess he will have other commitments back in the UK but if none of these are immediate then I don't see the point in sending him home two or three days before he could have done a quarter-final just in order for him to have a rest before he covers Wimbledon and/or The Open golf.
As Steve says, they've moved a couple of their commentators (but not summarisers) from country to country - Darren Fletcher and Alan Green will do a game in Poland after being based in Ukraine during the group stage, while John Murray and Conor (one 'n'
) McNamara are in Ukraine on Saturday having been based in Poland. If it was me, I'd have given John and Ali tonight's game, John and Conor Germany v Greece, then had Alan and Darren working Spain v France and Alan and Mike on England as per usual. Would have seemed fairer and more logistically sensible but that's just my take. For talkSPORT, with the Republic of Ireland having been knocked out and with England winning Group D, I guess things are logistically a lot simpler for them at least as far as the quarter-finals go. I'd imagine that John Roder and Andy Gray will do the first two quarter-finals from Poland, while Sam Matterface and Stan Collymore will do the third and fourth quarter-finals, which take place in Ukraine where they are based. However, should England get through to the semi-finals they'll be playing in Warsaw, meaning you'd then expect Sam and Stan to travel out to talkSPORT's base there while John and Andy would likely head out to Donetsk to do the other one.
Another 5 Live note from the group stage that hasn't been mentioned - from listening to a bit of their coverage of the England v Ukraine game on the IPlayer (and yes, just like Clive Tyldesley on ITV1, both Mark Pougatch and Mark Saggers spoke over the start of the second verse of the Ukrainian national anthem), Radio 5 Live had John Southall reporting on Sweden v France as opposed to their 5LSE commentary team which I presume was the case for clashing games on the previous three nights. I guess Southall is one of their match producers in Ukraine and was doubling up on this occasion.
