My poor lab went into the vets 4 weeks ago to get neutered. He wore a buster collar for a week after this and was only let out in the garden so that he wouldn't do any damage anything.
A week after the operation, he started coughing. We thought I was a hairball as we brushed him outside & he caught some hair that blew away. 2 days later, he was getting worse, coughing up phlegm a lot, most of it watery, but with lumps of snottery mucus. He would also throw up his dinner.
He was given antibiotics for a week & an anti sickness injection so he'd keep food and water down.
We changed him to a plain food, gave him honey, medicine with honey & lemon & gave him ice cubes for water.
There's not been much improvement & he's sick everytime he drinks water.
His cough is a really dry retch which sounds like he has something stuck in his throat. He sneezes too.
It looks really sore as you can see his back jerking when he coughs & he looks really fed up.
He's going back to the vet tomorrow as that'll be 20 days & I'm worried it's turning into something else.
Has anyone else had experience with kennel cough? Is it a case of waiting til it passes?
