Thomson set top box factory declared insolvent

I don't know if this means that Technicolor will continue producing set top boxes elsewhere or this is the end of what was once, the world's largest receiver manufacturer. Under its key TataSky deal, for example, the boxes are manufactured in India. In a Reuters interview last month Technicolor said that it hoped to find a partner for its set-top box business, and was also seeking to dispose of the factory by the summer. “Our problem is simple: prices have to come down, our clients stress this. Today, we cannot afford to build set-top boxes in France. This battle is lost, let us concentrate on what we can win,” Technicolor Chief Executive Frederic Rose" The Thomson brand has been licensed to Strong for set top boxes and is making something of a reappearance http://www.thomsonstb.net/gb/home Technicor itself has recently received a cash injection from JP Morgan as part of a plan to turn the company round. |

Appears Technicolor-branded boxes will still be made but in Vietnam. http://angersdailynews.over-blog.com...103372993.html
