Sorry if this has come up before but I haven't seen anything about it.

Using a Wii with a Panasonic 32" TV, I find the picture quality on Netflix to be very good, comparable with normal TV (I don't have any HD sources). But the sound seems quite muffled and prone to unpredictable changes in volume. Is this a trade-off from having good picture quality on a Wii? Is the sound better via a PS3 or Apple TV? I don't get the problem using iPlayer on the Wii, but the picture is nowhere near as good.

The only thing I've noticed is that the sound isn't as loud so my volume setting is double than usual.
Not really an issue as I just turn the volume up.

It might be because Netflix always plays Dolby 5.1, (when available), by default. If you don't have a 5.1 surround system you'll get dips and peaks in volume as the audio signal would be sent to individual speakers to create surround sound.
Before playing a title, go into the title's Audio and subtitles options and select "Stereo", then play.

That sounds like a solution, because sometimes the audio gets louder when the camera angle changes, which implies it's mixed differently according to what we're seeing. But how do you change the audio to stereo on the Wii? The main Wii setting is for stereo but I can't see an individual one for Netflix.

The Subtitle and Audio option should be displayed on the title's info page, see here for an example: http://www.gonintendo.com/wp-content...IMAG0107_1.jpg

I don't own a Wii, so if that doesn't fix it all I can suggest is that you go to a Nintendo forum and ask for more advice there.

Ah... it looks like that option isn't available for all titles. Some titles have a little symbol to the right, a speech bubble with "volume" curves in it, which can be clicked to open the subtitle and audio settings. But not all titles have this.

Having checked a few titles and played with the sound options for the Wii as well, it looks like there is no way to change the audio in Netflix on the Wii. Those titles that do have an audio option button have no other option than stereo, even if surround is selected in the Wii settings menu. The rest of the titles have no audio option button at all.

So my understanding - which may well be wrong - is that on the Wii you can have stereo, or you can have surround fudged into stereo, but you can't choose which you get. I'm happy to be corrected if anyone knows better!

I gave up on trying to use Netflix on my Wii the layout and navigation is so awkward. I bought myself a little Western Digital media player and it's so much better.
