Am I allowed to say both? I love female powerhouse vocals and also lighter pop vocals but really enjoy R&B style male vocals too, especially falsetto like Climax by Usher...

I prefer female artists in general tbh, if i was to look on my ipod there would probably be less than 10 male acts/singers on the whole thing.

Most of the jazz singers I listen to are female, most of the reggae singers are male. With soul music it's more split.
I just like a great voice. |

I prefer male singers. I have albums and singles by hundreds of artists and about a handful of them are female (Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, P J Harvey, Hole) and a few are bands with shared male and female vocals (My Bloody Valentine, The Pixies, Sonic Youth). The remaining 99% are male.

Can I ruin this?
We're all inclined to be drawn more to the female voice due to being in the womb. It's like coming home to your own bed after a long time away. A higher percentage of people prefer female voices. |

I like both, but male vocals have to be deep.

I prefer male vocalists but also like Kelly Clarkson, Rebecca Ferguson and Adele (apart from her screechy notes!)

I'm not sure if that's necessarily true. The overwhelming majority of people on this forum seem to favour female vocalists but then again this web site has a strong emphasis on reality TV, celebrity gossip and soap operas so I'm not really surprised.
This website caters to the more feminine demographic.. the Hello magazine brigade, thus most poll results/opinions on here are skewed. Most of the stuff on here i cant relate to (subject matter is dominated by cheesy pop artists... for example Kylie Minogue is taken seriously on here). This site has a plethora of women and gay males... and the female voice is generally preferred by both (camp wins.. Judy Garland, Madonna, Gaga, Kylie etc etc.) If we were to take a poll oustide of this website, and get a broader viewpoint, i would say the male preference may just edge it. I've never really thought about this and dont knowingly have a preference, but now that i think of it most of my favourite songs are sung by male singers (tho that could be due to the male dominated rock genre). |

I grew up with rock music which has mainly male singers but I noticed that there are now as many female singers on my iPhone. Times change.

I suppose it depends what type of music I'm in the mood for...
Generally, I think there's more female singers on my iTunes but if I had to choose which I'd rather listen to on repeat endlessly - I prefer male vocalists. |

I can't think of a female singer who has come along in the last 20 years who I have thought brilliant. I would put Bonnie Raitt and Anita Baker as the two best I have seen live.
But generally much prefer male singers. |
