Completely agree; that book stayed with me for a long time, in fact, I must get round to reading it again one of these days.

I'm currently reading The King's Grave: The Search for Richard III, by Phillipa Langley and Michael Jones, then I've got Autobiography by Morrissey lined up to read next.

As an adult who enjoyed all the Harry Potter books I was interested to see what she did when writing for adults, and while I don't agree with the various comments I've seen/heard about her poor writing style I can't say the story is grabbing me much at the moment, but I am going to persevere

I'm about a third of the way through 'The Storyteller' by Jodi Picoult. It's about a young reclusive girl with a scarred face who befriends an elderly man who is very respectable, pillar of the community type, who confides to her that he was a Nazi during WWII.

It's pretty harrowing stuff, reading his account of how he became a Nazi and the things he did, but from the reviews I think the 'worst' is still to come, with the story of the main characters grandmother who was a prisoner in Auschwitz.

That said, and as hard as it is to read, I am hooked and can't put it down.

Having never read any Harry Potter I was interested to read JKR. Whilst I couldn't criticize her writing style - the book's not very uplifting is it - and I can't really empathise with any of the characters

But like you, I intend to persevere.

Just finished Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Really wish I hadn't started the series at all.

Trust your Eyes by Linwood Barclay. Have read 2 or 3 books by the author now, didn't enjoy this one, fairly predictable.
Just started a collection of short stories/fiction by Neil Gaiman.

I've just started a Linwood Barclay too - Never Saw It Coming. It's OK so far, but I'm only a couple of chapters in.

Before that I just finished 'Remarkable Creatures' by Tracy Chevalier and absolutely loved it - straight into my top 10 favourites of all time.

Susan Hill The various Haunts of Men.

Such a good book, a real page turner, l have had to order the next couple of the books to keep me going, brilliant.

Will today start reading the final part of the Thomas Covenant Chronicles "The Last Dark". Can't wait. Hope it delivers the finale it deserves.

About to read 'Return of the Reptilians' from DevineDestinies by Annette Shelley.

Just finished Damian Barr's autobiography Maggie & Me and I have to say it's the best book I've read in ages. It's a story about a gay boy growing up in 1980s Scotland and his complex relationship with Margaret Thatcher. It's funny, it's sad, it's full of wonderful 80s nostalgia and it's beautifully told.

I've moved on to Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty. 35 pages in and I'm hooked.

I found it really hard to get into at first, but about 1/4 of the way through it grabbed me and I couldn't put it down. Do persevere!

Just checked this one out online and I like the sound of it, so I've reserved it from the library. Thanks for posting! I get most of my book recommendations from this thread.
