enderby. anthony burgess' 3 enderby novels in 1 volume ..... his famous unlikely fictional poet who writes high art while sitting on the loo farting and wanking. very funny. inspired by Orlando if im not mistaken (also a very funny book).

im not sure whether we're supposed to regard the poems that "enderby" (ie burgess) writes as masterpieces or crap. which is part of the fun ......

Lord of The Rings. I'm struggling with it though; probably just me but I'm finding it a bit of a plod, and it's not the first time I've attempted it! Trying not to quit on it again.

I'm with you there, I hated it! We were made to read it in school and I found it so dull

So glad it's not just me! I'm beginning to think life's too short to plough on with it

Finished Paranoid - Music journalist/PR Mick Wall's story of addiction to heroin and life on the road with colourful characters such as Jimmy paige and Ozzy Osbourne. Godd even if revisiting a well beaten path.

Finished Arnaldur Indriadson's Strange Shores - trhe lates outing in the Inspector Erlendur series .. two mysteries to solve including the fate of his younger brother who dissapeared in a snowstorm when both brothers were young. The strength of this series is Indriadson's story telling rather than the plots.

Heresy by S J Parris hoping to finish it by the time the new CJ Sansom book comes out.

I am also reading Reheated Cabbage by Irvine Welsh (as it's short stories it's great because I can read one and put it down for a while)

I keep giving up on books at the moment though.

"Raising Hell plus..." by Norman Spinrad

A novella about former union leaders now in hell getting Satan's demons to go out on strike. Plus a political essay and an interview.

The Monkey's Raincoat - Robert Crais
The first in the Elvis Cole series and it was OK. It took a while to get used to the writing style, and I thought of giving up a few ttimes, but it really picked up halfway through and was quite quite gripping.

After seeing the recent Liam Neeson(?) Tombstone movie I audiobooked the first book in the Matthew Scudder series. I planned to the jump to book 8 (?) on which the movie was based (just like I did with the Jack Reacher books) to compare and contrast the book and the movie. Though methinks I'm gonna do books 2-7 first just in case the series is one of those "best not skip any books" series, until the JR books where the author jumps about with the timeline from book to book so you can jump in and out (apart from one that's a direct sequel to the previous book)

Prior to Scudder #1 I listened to Jack Reacher Personal (the latest JR book by Lee Child) - have done the whole series and apart from one that's just stupid and another where he is way too violent .... WAY too violent, apart from these two I have really enjoyed the series. Then came Personal and... - now I have 3 JR books not worth a relisten.

Same here. I managed to read FOTR but the other two I did a lot of skipping forward through chapters. I also read The Hobbit which I enjoyed. I love the movies though.
