Reading this now too.

Hard Times - Dickens.
Have resorted to a reread until I (hopefully) get the new books I've requested for Christmas

Bit of a rant but I have really fallen out of love with reading at the minute. I find myself skipping over most pages just to get the book finished quicker. Maybe I'm just reading the wrong books.

I go through phases like this. sometimes you just can't find a book that holds your interest. It makes me feel out of sorts and bad tempered!

Eventually you'll pick up a book that makes you go "wow!" and you will be glued to it, and you'll fall in love with reading again.

This is why I like series - if I find a good book and there's five or six more to read in the series, I'm really happy. So long as the standard keeps up, of course.

But maybe you could try re-reading some of your favourites, if you can't find anything new to read. That's a trick I use if I'm feeling as you describe. I call the books I regularly re-read my "default" books.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely know what you mean about feeling unsettled and out of sorts when I don't have a book on the go.

The Secret Place - Tana French - I love this author and have found all of her books really gripping. I was saving this to read over Christmas and started it today

Just peeled back the cover to Carl Froch's autobiography. Decent read so far. Also got: The Climb: The Autobiography by Chris Froome and Faster than Lightning: My Autobiography by Usain Bolt. Inspiration - BOOM!

An Agatha Christie omnibus with four novels - at the moment I'm reading 'The Body In The Library'.

For Christmas I had 'The King's Curse' by Philippa Gregory and Torvill and Dean's autobiography so they are next on the list

'The Tooth Tattoo' by Peter Lovesey - one of the Peter Diamond series.

I like crime novels which have other interesting stuff going on, and this is one of those. The story revolves around a string quartet and there's lots of detail about the life and dynamics of a string quartet, and the music they play. If you have no interest in classical music it might be too much, but I'm finding it really interesting, as I like chamber music.

What are you reading at the moment?

Andy Weir's The Martian about an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars accidentally while his fellow mission astronauts get to go home. It's got very good reviews and so far I'm finding it to be a cracking read.

Life and Loves of a He Devil. Second book of memoirs by Graham Norton. He writes as he talks, in the same effortlessly chatty way. Funny and very hard to put down!

Finished Roger Moore's My Word is My Bond. Not the greatest of autobiographies but peppered with enough decent anecdotes to make it interesting

Finished Camilla Lackberg's "Broken Angels". I presume I was under a disadvantage that I hadn't read any prior books in the Hedstrom/Falck series. Too many narratives going on to really be suspensful. Shades of Johan Theorin's Oland Quartet as well. Overall - disappointed.

Just finished Ruth Rendell's The Girl Next Door - I'm a longtime fan but can't get over a possible editing error?

That was my favourite book of last year. Hope the movie does it justice.
