The Outcast Dead by Elly Griffiths

Re-reading for the umpteenth time,R.D.Wingfield's six
Inspector Frost novels.Forget the weedy TV stuff with
Davis Jason, these are the REAL thing! I was surprised
(yet again) that each book actually contains at least
THREE main plotlines, all of which were seperately made
into a TV episode! Great stuff,if you like a good Police
procedural story!

A rubbish read by Rosie Harris. Just ready to bin it.
Boring, repetitive, drawn out.

I'm reading The Holy Machine by Chris Beckett.
It's Science Fiction set a few generations into the future. George Simling lives in the state of Illyria, a community living by scientific principles in a world dominated by religious fundamentalists. In this enclave robots have taken over day to day mundane tasks, the most advanced robots are clad in human skin and have to be reprogrammed on a regular basis to avoid the development of sentience. When George meets and falls in love with Lucy, who is both a prostitute and a robot, life becomes complicated.

My current audiobook is still Anna Karenina. I'm about half way through and feel as though I'm never going to get to the end. Not a bad listen but sooooo long and I dislike Anna and Vronsky intensely at the moment.

It's got very mixed reviews - people seem to love it or hate it. I'm only 15% in so far and it's very readable so far although none of the main characters have much personality so I keep getting them mixed up. I am suspicious of some of the reviews on Amazon being fake as absolutely dozens were written on the same date (23rd April, I think) I rarely give up on books so I will complete it no matter what!

I'm 12% in. Enjoying it so far but I'm like you I will finish it even if it gets really bad. It's very rare that I don't finish a book. Will see how it goes!

The Empty Throne - Bernard Cornwell. Nearly finished. Enjoying it. Next one in the series is out in October, but it'll probably be quite a while before I get it from the library.

Next up is a Frederick Forsyth short story collection called No Comebacks.

First Impressions - Charlie Lovett
Mystery about a lost ancient book relating to Jane Austen, and the efforts of an Oxford bookseller attempting to locate a first edition for two customers, with nefarious intentions.
Alternating chapters with present day and Jane Austen's touching friendship with an elderly cleric, with a shared love of reading and writing. Entertaning, charming and anyone with a love of books will identify with it.
Incidentally, I reserved 'First Impressions' at the library, but by a different author, and I got this one instead. I don't know how that had happened, but it was a nice mistake to make.

Missing You - Harlan Coben
New York detective wants to solve who killed her cop father, many years ago, vanishing women on an online dating site, and a painful lost love appears back into her life.
Great stuff.

Pride and Prejudice was originally called First Impressions before Austen changed her mind.

I'm reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Interesting to compare/contrast with 1984.

The Tudor Wife by Emily Purdy.

A story told through the eyes of Jane Parker, Lady Rochford (wife of George Boleyn).

Some of the scenes are clearly fictional, and the way she recounts conversations between George and Anne or Henry and Anne verbatim she must have done a lot of eavesdropping

But I find it an interesting book, first because she paints a picture of unrequited love, and George's indifference to her, and the fact the story goes from the reign of Catherine of Aragon to the reign of Catherine Howard.

I'm up to the beheading of Anne Boleyn.

Okay so I have finished it now - I thought it was pretty good actually, a bit dull in the middle - I got slightly bored by everything that was happening in Nepal but on the whole an enjoyable read.

ETA just started The Accident by the same author
