Just started The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North, recommended by a friend from my book group as they read it before I joined. I liked the time travel aspect of Kate Atkinson's Life After Life so I think I'll enjoy this too as it's been compared to it favourably.

Lord Robert by Jean Plaidy.

Lord Robert Dudley, friend (and possible lover?) of Princess then Queen Elizabeth I. I keep seeing in my mind's eye, Joseph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett on reading it - from the film Elizabeth.

I'm really enjoying this, and Jean Plaidy was a wonderful writer in my view.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens novelisation. Fills in a lot of gaps from the movie.

Finished New Grub. Street just before new year. It is a great read, my only issue is that, as with many books of the era, the romantic and tragic aspects overtake the concept it was trying to convey. I wanted more of an insight of the burgeoning literary scene. I felt told what was developing in that period of literacy development rather than feeling it.

Still a significant and engaging work, just a bit of a let down.

Doing Alan Carr's Stop Smoking book as I'm not getting any younger! Let us hope it's my book of the year.

The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson- page 25 had me in tears of laughter.

TeddyBleads- smoking honestly isn't that hard to give up, the nicotine leaves your system much more quickly than most people think, and if you can keep yourself busy for the next week or two after that you've cracked it.

(1st and 2nd in the detective Alec Ramsay series) by Conrad Jones

both free from Amazon and absolutely nail biting stuff. If you like thrillers, then this author deserves a read.

Finally getting around to reading JK Rowlings The Casual Vacancy and so far it's excellent and definitely showing that she's much more than just a children's author.

I am 10% through The Drowning Lesson by Jane Shemilt. It doesn't have very good reviews and I wouldn't have picked it but I am reading it for my book group. To be fair I am enjoying it so far but it does seem a bit shallow,

Just finished reading Captive Prince and Prince's Gambit by C.S.Pacat.

Really enjoyed them both, the second book especially really develops the relationships between characters and some real shocks too.

Yes it's very aptly titled! I recently read the Benedict Jacka novels and that's what made me want to go back and read all of the Dresden files. Onto the last one now and then it's back to my TBR list.

It is a bit, but it's done with a gritty reality about it, fast paced and tense. I think he's a superb author.
