The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. Been meaning to read it for a while - an early example of a detective novel.

Since 'Midwinter of the Spirit' from the book by Phil Rickman was on TV I'm working my way through his books which are very good. At the moment I'm reading the Magus of Hay.
The book before this, which I found mostly unreadable, was Ulysses by James Joyce - I had to watch some of it on You tube to get the gist. I think it is a very clever book and it must have caused a scandal when it was first published and I understand it's 'stream of consciousness' stuff - but still you have to be able to read it. I did enjoy Molly Bloom's pages at the end though. |

I'm about to start Mother of Eden by Chris Beckett.
It's the follow up to Dark Eden and begins several generations further into the future. Eden is a distant planet peopled by the descendants of two astronauts whose spacecraft crashed there. At the time of the first book the inhabitants numbered hundreds, now there are thousands. A new world is being built on a planet that has no light from any sun. Heat, light and life come from geo-thermal energy within the planet. |

After Anna - Alex Lake - it's got very mixed reviews so I'm not sure how much I'm going to enjoy it but it was recommended by a colleague so I'm giving it a try.....

I just finished Disclaimer by Renee Knight, slow meandering start and doesn't pick up the pace for about 100 pages but then starts motoring on quite well - very much enjoyed.
Now started Elizabeth Is Missing |
