What did you think of it? I am about 1/3 through already, it's certainly a quick read. I like it, but I don't love it - I don't have much sympathy for the Anna's mum (at the moment)

Just started The Woman in Blue by Elly Griffiths, the latest in the Ruth Galloway series - it was only released on Kindle yesterday and I had pre-ordered it but forgotten so I was excited to find it suddenly appear! My only bugbear is that seems to be 100 pages shorter than the other books in the series which is disappointing as it cost me £8.49

War Horse - Michael Morpugo
Beautiful heartfelt story of Joey the horse, torn from his beloved farm and owners to the hardships of WW1. Haven't seen the play or film, but the book is hard to beat. |

Kensuke's Kingdom - Michael Morpugo
Touch of Robinson Crusoe, here, as a twelve year old boy and his pet dog are washed ashore on a remote uninhabited island, after a violent storm, during a sailing voyage. Enjoyable, entertaining and poignant. |

A God in Ruins - Kate Atkinson - the sequel to Life After Life which I really enjoyed and this time the story focusses on Ursula's brother Teddy, who in the last book died in WW2 but appears to lead a longer life in this book (those who have read Life After Life will appreciate how this is possible)

I'm currently reading Harmony Black by Craig Schaefer. It was a Kindle First choice from last month. Harmony works for an under-the-radar US government department investigating supernatural crimes, she's a witch incidentally. I was hoping that this would be similar to Ben Aaronvitch' s Rivers Of London books but so far this is nastier and lacking in humour. There are plenty of positive reviews though, so perhaps it'll get better. I'm looking forward to reading The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett next and might have to ditch Harmony for the Queen if she doesn't shape up. |

Twist of Gold - Michael Morpurgo
During the potato famine in Ireland, a young boy and his sister, leave their dying mother to start a long journey to reunite their father who is in California. It's hard to believe I was reading a children's story, I loved it. Time for a change of author, I think. |

Enjoying at the moment
A biography of Montgomery (of 2nd world war fame) which has been contributed to by his son. It covers his childhood, rise through the ranks and through his leadership before and after D-Day. A very good read although not the kind of material I usually read.
You might try The Belle Fields by Lora Adams which covers life and times in a Big House around 1900 before the 1st World War started a change to this way of life - the massive gap between those above and below stairs. A fast moving 'Victorian' romance and the author has a real gift in describing the massive void between the classes. A real twist at the end though, perhaps a bit sad so beware! Lora has promised a sequel - can't wait. |

Just finished the last of the 24 George Gently books that have
so far been issued as ebooks. Superb, thoughtful detective work with no car chases, no shoot outs, in fact very cerebral, as per Sherlock Holmes and Morse. Can't wait for the remaining 22 to be issued in e-format! |
