Started The Case of the Missing Boyfriend by Nick Alexander - I have read some of his books in the past and enjoyed them - it seems a nice light read so far.

OMG I loved that book. What did you think of it?

I'm currently working my way through Enid Blyton's Malory Towers series which I had loved as a child, and find I still enjoy them!

SPQR - A History of Ancient Rome by Mary Beard

I'm listening to Diamond Solitaire by Peter Lovesey, read by Michael Tudor Barnes. I'm very pleased that Audible have released the first three books in the Peter Diamond series at last, hopefully they'll release the rest of the older books soon.

I'm reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman. I don't know how I've managed to miss both the book and the film up until now. Great fun so far.

Two 'Quick Reads' - Just finished 'Too Good to be True' (Shetland series) by Ann Cleeves and about to start 'The Double Clue' which is four Poirot short stories.

The Hunter - Tom Wood
'Jack Reacher meets Thomas Crown' it says on the cover, about an assassin, being hunted by assassins from Russia and CIA. Very exciting, despite an abrupt ending.

How do we all feel about giving up on a book?

I ask because after several hours of excruciating and confusing reading my reader tells me I'm an impressive 8% through this weighty tome. I'm not sure I can contemplate the other 92%!

I think that's the way I'm leaning, I might have a break from it while I read something else (I'll go back to it....promise) 😁

I rarely give up on books but at 8% and with it being such a hard slog I probably would.
I can (literally) count on one hand the amount of books I have given up on over the years!

I struggled through to 11% last night but have lost all interest in it, I don't think I'm in the mood for a heavy, scholarly history book!

I hate giving up on a book and rarely do so, Catch 22 is the only one which has repeatedly beaten me (I think I've had over 10 attempts over the years).

Time to move onto something a little lighter

Given up SPQR for the time being and moving on to Lord Edgeware Dies (Poirot) by Agatha Christie

I try again every couple of years but it's never clicked with me, I just don't get it. The last time I tried I managed about 1/3 of it before completely losing interest, I got to the stage of being unable to read more than a couple of pages in one sitting.

To be honest I think I've developed a sort of mental block, I approach it knowing full well I've never managed to finish it and resigned to doing the same again.

Unbelievably (for me as I like the classics) I've never read Wuthering Heights so am putting that right at the moment!

Just finished The Martian by Andy Weir.

cometh the hour, the new Jeffrey Archer in the seemingly never ending Clifton Chronicles... pretty good so far though I know I'll get frustrated at yet another cliffhanger ending. he's obviously doing something right though as I come back for more each year.

I'm working my way through the Shannara series (yet) again, on audio book this time. Dear me, I can't read/listen to Elfstones without a weep. Every blimming time it gets me, and I always think it won't happen next time, but there I go again.

Scott Brick's narrating them, and he can't half put some emotion into his voice, that man.

Oh well, onto Wishsong. Again.
