Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch. Amazingly good and also a nice easy read. Hilarious in places, quite dark in others, I have ordered the next two in the series - in fact I did so when I was about 10 pages in. If you love the Felix Castor novels you will love this - I've struggled to find anything in the same genre that meets the standard of Mike Carey but here it is. Equally if you have read Rivers of London and loved it and have NOT read Felix Castor you should!

Basically, Peter Grant, a PC in the Met, discovers magic and mystery surrounding the rivers of london. A quote from the novel, and the point at which I knew it was a winner...In spoilers just in case people hate reading tiny bits of books!

Spoiler
Sometimes I wonder whether, if I'd been the one that went for coffee and not Lesley May, my life would have been much less interesting and certainly much less dangerous. Could it have been anyone or was it destiny? When I'm considering this, I find it helpful to quote the wisdom of my Father - "Who knows why the f*** anything happens!"
”

Thanks for this, I loved Rivers of London and Moon over Soho so will certainly give the Felix Castor books a look.

They are brilliant. I am really pleased to see that there is another Felix Castor coming out - I thought we'd never see another after the last one as it felt like an ending to his story - and its been a few years!

You may also like Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift novels if you enjoy this genre - the first being "A Madness of Angels". Another set I discovered whilst on my search Anyway hope you enjoy Felix.xx

As for me I am currently reading "The Gone Away World" by Nick Harkaway. Very entertaining, kind of post apocalyptic but with ninja's, pirates and politics!

I've just finished the latest Elizabeth George 'Believing the Lie' featuring the lovely Inspector Lynley.

A great read and it was set in the Lake District which was a nice change the usual London setting.

Deathly Contagious - Emily Goodwin. It's the second in the Contagium trilogy.

Really enjoyed the first one, excellent if you like zombies and post apocalyptic writing.

Finished Ian Skidmore's "Forgive Us Our Press Passes" .. memoirs of a northern journalist .. Great anecdotes about the days of Hot Metal but a great sub needed to make this book attract a larger audience.

Moon over Soho - Ben Aaronvitch.

Just a quick note about "The Gone Away World" the last book I read. I havent read anything like it before and it was absolutely brilliant. Is now in my top 10 of favourite books of all time. I would recommend it to anyone no matter which genre is your favourite. I suppose you could call it post apocalyptic if you want to give it a tag but thats not really it. Not sure there is a way to describe it.
Anyway if you like a bit of a risk give it a go - you won't be disappointed!

Not dead yet-Peter James, taking a while to get into,I usually get dragged straight into the world of Roy Grace, but I'm finding all the jumping from one country to another rather tedious, sure I'll get there though!
