I've just finished AMonster Calls - Patrick Ness. I can hardly see my eyes are so puffy. I can count on one hand the amount of books that have reduced me to tears, but this one had me unashamedly blowing snot bubbles into my cup of tea.

It's the type of book that makes me want to run up to strangers and demand they read it. In my humble opinion it really is faultless, from the gorgeous prose to the stunning illustrations, it had me hooked from the first page onwards.

What a great thread, it's given me loads of ideas on what to read next but it will take me a while to read through it all.
Just now i'm reading Kind of Cruel by Sophie Hannah, not really my kind of thing but I'm really enjoying it.

An oldie The Handmaids Tale - Margaret Atwood.

'Speculative fiction' at its finest!

the lazarus child Robert Mawson.

it's really good so far. I read it before, but that was years ago when I was about 14 and I can't really remember what happened.

Those books are just brilliant I can't actually bring myself to read the last few pages of Gabriels Rapture because it will all be over
Apparently the author is writing a third book though
I'll have to look up Unloveable thanks

Just finished A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen. Absolutely wonderful. It's the most heart-warming book I've ever read.

I fancy trying that, I read an interview with him, James that is, not the cat

I certainly recommend it. James tells the story of how he befriends an injured stray cat and their life together working on London's streets, good and bad. Have some tissues and comfort food handy for the bad parts.

Just started this after seeing your post and checking it out.

Just finished Fracture by Megan Miranda. Good YA novel about a girl who 'dies' for 11 minutes after falling through ice into a lake. She survives but is left with a sixth sense type of thing where she can sense when anyone around her is close to death.

You may also like Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift novels if you enjoy this genre - the first being "A Madness of Angels". Another set I discovered whilst on my search Anyway hope you enjoy Felix.xx

As for me I am currently reading "The Gone Away World" by Nick Harkaway. Very entertaining, kind of post apocalyptic but with ninja's, pirates and politics!”

Much obliged for pointing me to the Felix Castor novels. I've devoured the first one and I'm going to order the rest.
Gonna take a look at the Swift novels after that.

Half way through Engleby, started it ages ago. It's part of my 'finish your old half read books before you start the ones you want to read' kick. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great, but for some reason it's really hard work.

Still Standing: The Savage Years by Paul O'Grady
I've been waiting for this ever since I finished his second book. I love the characters, the stories and the way he tells them.

Dinished Dregs by Jorn Lier Horst. Slow burner, very implausible plot but really got drawn in by the story and the character of the main protagonist Detective Wisting.

Finished Where's Your Caravan? Footballer Chris Hargreaves account of his ups and downs during 20odd years as a pro serving several clubs in the lower echelons of the league. Great stories and a good account of what its really like for a jobbing footballer when injuries strike and contracts come to an end.
