Finished Stella Gibbons`s Cold Comfort Farm .. Really good humorous tale. Would have been a big waft of fresh air in the 30s .. same as Flora Poste`s impact on the Starkadder family.

Wilkie Collins, "No Name".
Since I got the Kindle I've been reading the freebies. I'm stunned by Collin's readability. Modern in style. Humourous. Joyous. |

I've always enjoyed reading the classics but I think the rise of the Kindle freebies has been a great way to get more people interested in them. I've only read The Woman in White by Collins so far, but yes he does have an easy to read style.

Picked up a couple of Agatha Christies today, have started 5 Little Pigs this afternoon.
Nothing like a good old fashioned murder/mystery on a winter's evening when it's chucking it down with snow outside! |

I found the book a mixture of sadness and amusement at things she found objectionable.

I'm reading The Baader Meinhof Complex by Stefan Aust- it's about the Red Army Faction, as the title would suggest. It's the book the movie that came out a few years ago was based on, and it's VERY well-researched and indepth. Fascinating to see how rational people can embrace extremism.

100 pages into The Mystery Of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes and I'm not enjoying it at all. Neither the plot nor the characters are gripping me and though Keyes usually has me crying with laughter, I haven't laughed once so far. And my god it's sloooooow.
Can anyone tell me if it gets better? Or does the entire story revolve around this obnoxious "Laddz" band? I mean, why would I care about the disappearance of one of the band members? The reader has no connection with him whatsoever. So disappointed. Had been eagerly awaiting her new book. |

Tripwire by Lee Child.. I'm reading his books in order, and once you have got used to Lee Child 's style of writing, and the character of Jack Reacher, his books are unputdownable.

Currently half way through Cujo by Stephen King.
Out of all the SK books I've read so far, it's my least favourite, but it still has the second half to save itself. |
