I've just swapped mid-book. Was reading Redaction by Linda Andrews but although I was enjoying it I wasn't really drawn into it (sorry Lizzy!) But I will definitely get back to it.

Instead, and thanks to this thread, I've gone for another James Herbert. After really enjoying Crickley Hall I was intrigued by the comments that Nobody True was even better so I've just started that one. It's an interesting idea and I've got high hopes!

Edit to add: Just dont read "She's not there" because its hours of your life you will never get back heh!

Lizzy, have you any suggestions for other books with a similar theme to Nobody True? It left me wanting a similar read and I'm not sure where to find it.

And what other James Herbert books would you recommend? I started Shrine a few months ago but haven't picked it up again lately.

The only other James Herbert books I've loved enough to re-read are "Once" and "Others". "Creed" is also very good. These are the ones that I found had a proper "story" story if you get what I mean, rather than loads of horror such as the rats etc.

I don't think I've read any books that are like "Nobody True"...although Others runs along a vaguely similar theme, death/re-birth etc.

Sounds to me like you might quite like some of the urban magic type books that I also love. If you fancy giving something like that a go, the "Felix Castor" series by Mike Carey would give you an idea of whether or not you would love it. If you do there are a few other authors that write in that genre I could point you towards.

Sorry to jump in! I'm a third of the way through Nobody True and it reminds me of 'Afterwards' by Rosamund Lupton. It's got the same out of body theme, and trying to solve a crime.

House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz. Very enjoyable

Just about finished Jo Nesbø's The Bat. Then it is on to read Åsa Larsson's the Savage Altar. Then back to Jo with the Snowman. That should see me through most of Christmas. I hope.

Trying and failing to get into 'A Court Affair' by Emily Purdy - all about Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley.

'John Dies at the End' by David Wong. Halfway through and I can decide if its a work or genius or a pile of crap. One of the strangest books I've ever read.

Shadow's Claim by Kresly Cole. It's the first in a spin off series from her Immortals After Dark. When some of the characters were introduced in her last IAD novel, none of them really interested me that much, so I wasn't exactly waiting in anticipation for this one. Fortunately it is extremely readable and feels more like a IAD book than a new series.

Not my usual type of read and I'm not far enough in to say whether I like it, or hate it - so far the main character is irritating me though!

Peter V. Brett - The Great Bazaar and Other Stories

Just finished the 1st book in the Shetland Island series Raven Black by Ann Cleeves, enjoyed it, now started the 2nd one White Nights...

I've put A Question of Identity by Susan Hill to one side for the time being while I listen to 99p Christmas audiobooks. I've finished The Christmas Angel by Marcia Willett. An ok listen but not much happened really.

Next is Christmas at Candleshoe by Michael Innes.

Now onto the next Matthew Swift book, The Neon Court by Kate Griffin. Loving these. Along with the Rivers of London series, probably my favourite "finds" of 2012.

Finished Michael Toliver Returns. Either Maupin's got smuttier or I've become more prudish over the last 20 years. A nice, light, holiday read and he's lost none of his wit and warmth.

I'm reading that at the moment, only about 25% through, but feel the same as you.

Black Seconds - Karrin Fossum. The Inspector Sejer gets better and better .. well worth a read if you like your Nordic Noir

The Listener and other stories by Algernon Blackwood.

A Chesapeake Shores Christmas.

I am not hugely impressed, I don't like the storyline, the way it's written particularly either. And I can't stop reading it as Cheapskate Shores.
