I'm reading The Birthing House whilst waiting for two other books to arrive...it has been on my bookshelf for several years and, after reading the reviews on Amazon, has nearly made it to the charity shop on several occasions. But I can't put it down! I'm surprised.

The Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton. About halfway through it so only another 600 page or so to go!

Half way through Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Green and I'm really enjoying it so far.
It's not what I was expecting (thought it would be quite quirky and lighthearted) but it is really good. |

74. Little Men (16th – 22nd December) – not as good as the others in the series. Will read Jo’s Boys next and that should tide me over until Xmas.

"Pavane" by Keith Roberts. Probably the best alternate history yarn ever written.
Queen Elizabeth the First is assassinated and in the wake of subsequent anti-Catholic riots, Philip of Spain sends his Armada to take control. As a result, Britain remains a Catholic country and progress stagnates: electricity and internal combustion are proscribed leaving steam power and semaphore as the principal means of transport and communication. Vivid, absorbing and totally convincing, marred only by its structure as a fix-up of short stories. Those of a nervous disposition may wish to skip the scenes of the Inquisition. Masterpiece is too small a word. |

I buy so many books from Amazon, physical copies in the past (loads in my loft) and for the past few years, Kindle copies.
Currently, I'm reading Backstage Pass: Sinners on Tour by Olivia Cunning. ![]() Yesterday, I finished the first two of Sadie Matthew's triology, Fire After Dark and Secrets After Dark. Eagerly waiting for the final part.

Finished Paul Auster's New York Trilogy .. unique strange but compelling. Profound about identity and the craft of writing.

Finished Christmas at Candleshoe by Michael Innes. It was a special 99p offer on Audible's Advent Calendar but actually had nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.
It's quite an enjoyable quirky little tale written and set, I think, in the late 1940s about two branches of an old titled family, a rich American widow, an orphan and the possibility of some hidden treasure. In places it reminded me of Peter Pan, there was also a hint of P. G. Wodehouse and maybe a bit of Famous Five thrown in too. No Christmas though. For my final Christmas themed listen I'm going for Agatha Raisin and Kissing Christmas Goodbye by M. C. Beaton. |

Just finished Gone by K Michael Williams (I think, the authors name escapes me yawn) Downloaded this on my Kindle. It was very short and although it was called part one its not really clear to me whether this is going to be a series of short stories to complete the actual tale or its going to end up being a longer book. People are vanishing and no-one knows why. I find that I don't actually care why, It wasnt that well written and Michael Grant's "Gone" series for young adults has done the same theme but infinitely better. Read them not this!

Finished Thursdays In The Park - it got a lot of good reviews on Amazon but to be honest I raced through the final chapters just to be done with it; I really didn't enjoy it.
Just starting Creed by James Herbert - hasn't gripped me to begin with as I'm finding the initial scene setting a bit drawn out. |

Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard. 75 reviews on Amazon so far. Mostly 5*s. Hope it's not a disappointment cos sometimes, I wonder if the reviewers are actually raving about the same book I'm reading/just read as its not as good as they made out. |

A work colleague loaned me the book With The Kisses Of His Mouth by Monique Roffey and told me he thought I'd read about half of it, so that's what I'm reading at the moment. Have got through the first 100 pages so far...

Finished Nobody True by James Herbert and really enjoyed it. Over the weekend I also read The Truth about Us by Dalene Flannigan after looking for recommendations for books with a good twist. It was an ok read, but the twist didn't live up to the hype at all.
Now I'm reading Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch, think it was one of Lizzy's recommendations Quite intriguing so far! Managed to read the first 10% on my Kindle app on my phone this morning whilst stuck in my GP's waiting room for an hour.

Have decided to read all John Grisham books in reverse order, (I think they are all stand alone novels? I hope so anyway). Reviews of his latest caught my eye and I am enjoying it so far.
