Just about to start the new Temeraire book Crucible of Gold. Just hope it's a lot better than the one set in Australia which was really bad.
Still hoping for a GREAT movie or TV series of this. |

Spent the last three days engrossed in 'Pure' by Andrew Miller - subject matter aside it is a beautifully crafted book - the language is very engaging.
Have just started 'Dark Places' by Gillian Flynn - her second book - 50 pages in and it is proving, already to be just as dark as 'Gone Girl' and 'Sharp Objects. |

I'm reading 'Just As Well I'm Leaving' by Michael Booth - it's a travel book basically following in the footsteps of a journey once done by Hans Christian Anderson and it gives insights into his life and works.
On the front of this book it says: 'Like an earthier Bill Bryson and, whisper it, funnier' by the Independent on Sunday. I beg to differ - a page or so in and from then on whilst reading Mr.Bryson's travel books I just about roll on the floor laughing - with this book I've had about 2 titters and also have to skip bits - oh hum...

I'm about a third of the way through Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. The epitome of unputdownable. I only started it this morning and am now mightily peed off that I have to sleep as I have a 6.30am start tomorrow.

London Bridges - James Patterson
It's the first Alex Cross book I've enjoyed in a while, a few of his previous books I just read for the sake of it, but this one I'm enjoying |

The Lighthouse by PD James. It's nothing special - just the usual PD James fare. I've nearly finished it.
Next in my pile is 'Notes from an Exhibition' by Patrick Gale. I've not read him before so that will be something new. |

Just started The Casual Vacancy again. I couldn't get into it the first time and I want to see if it gets better.

Just finished House Rules by Jodi Picoult. A very good read about a teenage boy with Asperger's accused of murder. Have now started No-one Left to Tell by Karen Rose, an author whose books I always love.

Mr g: A Novel About the Creation by Alan Lightman.
Mr g (God) lives in a void with his Aunt Penelope and Uncle Deva. He awakes from a nap one day and decides to create a universe, and then several universes. In the process he also unwittingly creates a Satan-like entity. I'm a short way into the book, Quantum Physics has been mentioned and to be honest it's all a bit beyond me at the moment. Thankfully it's quite a short book so I may get to the end before I give up. Alan Lightman is apparently a distinguished physicist and author of Einstein's Dreams. According to the blurb, the book takes us from the Big Bang to the end of the Universe. |

Just finished Alastair Reynolds absolutely awesome Revelation Space books. Just started on Gregory Benfords Galactic Centre series. Initial promise is good but Reynolds is a mighty tough act to follow.

I've given up on my current audiobook, Fall of Giants by Ken Follett and started a new one, Ghostwritten by David Mitchell. Much better.

Welcome to the world of Patrick Gale - I adore his storytelling and writing style
The writing is beautiful in a simple way (I don't like very dense or wordy styles of writing) and I'm completely wrapped up in the story. It's also about an artist, and I'm very interested in art so there's even more special appeal for me. It's the best book I've read for ages. I'll definitely be tracking down his others. |
