I'm really glad you replied - I have somebody to tell about how much I am loving this book! (Notes From An Exhibition)
The writing is beautiful in a simple way (I don't like very dense or wordy styles of writing) and I'm completely wrapped up in the story. It's also about an artist, and I'm very interested in art so there's even more special appeal for me. It's the best book I've read for ages. I'll definitely be tracking down his others. |

I read it a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it. A Perfectly Good Man is good too.
![]() Seems like a popular author - I don't know why hadn't I heard of him before. |

I have just started a book titled- The Yard by Alex Grecian. Set in 1880's London, the blurb implies its like the BBC tv show Ripper Street. Seems pretty good

OP, if you enjoy that novel & would like to read more in a similar vein, I can highly recommend The Pleasures of Men by Kate Williams, about a serial killer in 1840's London. Very dark and atmospheric, gripping to the end.

I know this much is true - Wally Lamb
Excellent, evolving story of a twin brother of a schitzophrenic, the book, follows the parallel story of his grandfather, who originated from Italy and his struggle to succeed in the US. A very rewarding read, it reminded me a lot of A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz, which I would also highly recommend. |

58. While He Was Away by Karen Schrek (24th-25th July) – a YA read about a girl whose boyfriend enlists in the US army and is on a tour of duty of Iraq. This is what happens whilst he’s away. It was enjoyable after a bit of a shaky start, although there seemed to be a lot of plotlines competing for attention here, not all fully developed. Still, reasonable enough.

Half way through The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton and really enjoying. I loved her other books too: The Forgotten Garden and The House at Riverton.
I haven't read The Distant Hours and it hasn't been as well received as her other books, so I'm not sure whether to buy it or not. |

I have now finished 'Notes From An Exhibition' by Patrick Gale, which I loved so much it is right up in my all-time top 5 favourite books. Difficult to follow that, so I'm just listening to an Agatha Raisin audiobook now, and dipping in and out of art books. Next in my pile I have 'Capital' by John Lanchester. |

Despite having loads of books waiting to be read on my Kindle, I've been thinking for a while that it might be interesting to try borrowing an ebook from the library.
I've downloaded Overdrive Media Console Library app onto my Kindle Fire, signed in with my library card and now have The Secret River and Searching for the Secret River by Kate Grenville to read until 18th August. It's a book that's been on my wishlist for quite a while now. Quite exciting (I need to get out more!). |

Just finished reading The Perfect Game and The Game Changer, both by J Sterling. Lovely love story and great characters. I would recommend them if you're a hopeless romantic like me!

Have looked at these many times before and was looking for some new fantasy to read so thougth I'd give them a go - really enjoying them
