Suncare.

I need to acquire some sun protection cream but, before I spend over £30 on it, I wonder if anyone can advise me on SPFs. A few facts: I am extremely fair skinned and a redhead, so reckon I need to go for a high factor, possibly 50. The only thing which makes me question whether or not a factor 30 would be adequate, is that I don't sit out in, or spend a lot of time in the sun. If I did, I would definitely go for the higher SPF. There is only about £3 difference in the cost, so price isn't an issue, but I do want to ensure that I am fully protected. Any help would be appreciated. Just out of interest, the brand I am purchasing is Ultrasun once a day application. Also, is lotion for the body okay for the face, or is one better using a dedicated face lotion? Thanks.

I would start with 50 and go towards 30. No need to spend so much as you can get them for around £5, stores own brand ( boots, superdrug...) are tested and as good as any, you are paying big price for the brands name.

Wilkinsons own brand suncare is excellent. Remember iy's not just the SPF that counts, but also the star rating (one is UVA protection, the other UVB, but can't remember which is which). You should probably go for a high SPF with 5 star.

People should also remember it isn't just the factor or the amount of stars on the bottle but also HOW MUCH you apply. Pretty much all of us do not put enough sun spray/lotion on to gain the protection advertised on the bottle.

A rough guide is basically for each part of the body (upper right arm, upper left arm, neck etc) you need to put a finger length's worth. IE. apply a squirt of lotion on to the entire length of your finger - this is how much is needed for each part of your body to get the full protection as advertised on the bottle.
