Nicam Stereo VCR

Is there a difference between a VCR that is described as Nicam Stereo, and one that is described as nicam Hi-Fi stereo.

What I want is one that can play all my pre-recorded tapes in stereo. Will all nicam VCRs play pre-recorded tapes in stereo.

Thanks in advance.....

IIRC, a HiFi VCR records 2 sets of audio tracks, the normal linear track that can be played by any VCR, and a higher quality helical-scan track track that can only be played back by a HiFi VCR.
IIRC the HiFi helical track is digital.

Both types of audio track contain the same signal, but the HiFi track has better range and less tape hiss.

As long as the pre-recorded tape is stereo, any stereo VCR will play it in stereo.
If the pre-recrded tape is "HiFi stereo", then a normal NICAM VCR will play it in stereo, but a HiFi VCR will play it in HiFi stereo.
