How pathetic, narrow AND simple-minded and precious are the general public...or at least the ones representative there!

Ok you dont like heart etc in your sausage. How about telling them whats in the tesco sausage? Skin, rusk, fat, ground gristle etc.
Do they really think all cheap sausages contain pork chop or something? |

Cheap sausages are all the nasty bits left over and connective tissue! They dont even contain the amount of meat that you would get from the liver, tongue and cheek that you would get in Jimmy's sausages! |

i can't help but think those people just said that they would now buy free range with heart etc in as they were on telly and felt bad about the cramped conditions of the pigs.

It illustrated just how cowardly people and the big multiples are - bland cheap crap - yes, better food made of "non standard" parts -no.
Why are people so squeamish about what are frequently the most nutritious parts of animals? |

And getting a bit sniffy about tongue when ox tongue from the deli counter isn't cheap (but is delicious) I thought was very strange It's not like he was using ear, snout and tail! |

50 years ago oxtail was popular. Then it vanished. Now it's popular again and quite pricey. The same as cheeks. They maybe cheap if you get them direct from the abattoir but the price is hiked way up when they get to the butchers, |

Also the fact that they were happy to eat them and enjoy them but as soon as they found out what was in them nearly all said no to buying them.
The heart and tongue are muscles. It's meaty flesh that's going into them and he even cut down on the tongue so it was mostly heart and pork belly. I know people have an aversion to organ type offal but I wonder if he had the chance to explain the differences between the cuts of meat used. Again, i'm not sure why you would have to list those cuts on the pack anyway. Who knows what cuts of meat go into the standard Tesco sausage Quote:

I completely missed his products, i think the branding is rubbish. Jimmy should have his name on the package like other celeb chefs.

He already has his own range of sausages. They are over twice the price of the Tesco free range.
I guess the point was to have "standard" Tesco products but using free range. I think they have balls up the timing of the shows. They should have had the series on the week of the launch so that people would know from watching the series and reading about it in newspapers etc. I've never seen them either. I don't shop at Tesco too often but if I knew they were available I would have had a look out for them. Then they could have had a roundup program to see how it all worked out. |

I'd try his chicken kievs. Wonder if our Tesco has any. Never noticed them but never buy kievs anyway. Last I had tasted awful.

I'll happily buy the chicken kievs next time I do a tesco order I just had one delivered today so will have to be a couple of weeks, wouldn't be surprised if they all sell out though with the publicity of the show

My local Tesco Extra sell the Kievs. I noticed them without even looking for them; they taste great and I'll be buying them regularly.
I haven't bought the sausages though; they only contain 37% pork! |

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=273246239 and the Jimmy branded ones http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=265423474 A big difference in price - but also a big difference in the meat content. He wouldn't want to have damaged his own brand by putting his name to the cheap versions, but this was an exercise in seeing whether you could make a cheap free range own label version. I'm not sure about the sausages but I'll try the kievs. I often have some of the standard kievs in the freezer for emergency meals but I can't say I've ever enjoyed them. They are just handy to have for when you get back from the pub and haven't got anything in the fridge. |

Sorry if this has already been asked - but why do they have to kill those lovely little bull calves? Why couldn't they be sold on to beef farmers ?

They are from breeds that are bred to produce milk, not beef. As a consequence, the adult animal does not carry as much meat on it as a beef cow, and I think that the quality is not as good

These products should be really eye-catching for them to be noticed amongst the other similar products stocked on the shelves around them. They should also have a clear statement on the front of the packs something like "Free Range and Incredible Value", so people can see at-a-glance what a good price they are, considering they are Free Range. I wonder if any posters are put up in Tesco stores to publicise these products. If I hadn't seen the programme, I would never spot that they were there and currently available in Tesco stores. |
