Ok so as you are aware, these threads are full of hatred towards all the popstars and could be described as a battle ground for pop fans to duke it out. Not looking for smarmy replies like "ITS JUST AN OPINION" was generally wondering who the most favoured artist is? Or who you think the most popular artist is that receives the least amount of abuse thrown at them by consumers and forum posters.
Doesnt even have to relate to sales!

Im not a Beyonce "fan" at all but personally I think she commands a huge amount of respect and a lot of people appreciate her greatly as a performer whether they are a fan or casual listener. Therefore, right now I think she has my vote.

Lady Gaga? No way!! She has had such intense backlash recently, I think people find her hard to relate to - especially after all her grand claims that totally fell short

So you are really just looking for someone who is very popular and commands respect for their talent like Stevie Wonder or Bruce Springsteen or Madonna, for example?

I'm not sure about what 'grand claims' you are referring to with Gaga but she has more than delivered artistically over 2 and half albums. And I'm not sure how I 'relate' to a modern superstar like Beyonce or Adele but I can relate to what they sing about. On that basis Gaga and Springsteen are far more challenging than the safe options.

Who do I think is very popular and respected?
Jay-Z
Eminem
Beyonce
Gaga...maybe just about. The Little Monsters thing has backfired for her I feel

Pink - seems to be deeply respected by all her fans I've found and I havent seen her badmouthed in a while. She's also someone just on the edge of worldwide fame I think, and she tends to stay there, maybe keeping out of the tabloid eye (?) Easy to forget about her amongst big names

Nelly Furtado - again, on the edge of fame but has had a long career and seems to be well respected and maintains her level of popularity

David Guetta
Usher
Drake
my name is joe

until she became too successful for some to bear i'd have said Adele. You'd have to look hard to find a bad word said against Emeli Sande so i'll say her now

I don't think Guetta is respected at all Most people (well on DS can't stand him) I think in general a lot of people like his songs, but I wouldn't say he has a 'fanbase'.

I agree with you on P!nk though.

Also Florence and the Machine.

Judging by who IRL people talk about from my experience, and what they say, I'd agree with Beyonce.

Don't think I've heard a word against her outside the internet (and even online she gets less negativity than the others). Each time she did anything noteworthy (pregnancy announcement, Glastonbury, that ITV special), my timeline blew up with positive comments. She's idolised, she's respected and I think this past year has done wonders for her image...even if her music hasn't done well.

Pink and Kelly Clarkson for me.

Part of me would say Beyonce. She is very highly respected as a singer, performer, dancer. She has the whole package. However, online she does get a fair bit of criticism for her music. People online do not forget about her management nicking songs and apparently grabbing writing credits which don't belong to her.

But funny enough I'd agree with someone like Pink. She's a great singer and performer and imo can put on a show that could be up there with something beyonce has done. I also haven't read a bad word against her. She came on the scene as a badass edgy pop princess who was promoted as the opposite of someone like Britney. Yet her crazy persona never really turned into her lifestyle. I do see her as a very respectable woman. Even while going through her pregnancy, she has taken her time out of the spotlight to care for her daughter, and seems to be holding a proper life before returning to music. She also does a lot of charity work, and is quite outspoken in a positive way. she has been in the industry since 2000 and seems to just keep growing with each album without having to sell out.

I also think Beyonce, I think the only backlash she's really had was the 'fake pregnancy' rumours, but they died soon enough.

Beyonce is one, she only really gets any abuse when their is actually an issue, such as 'Writing credits'. Then the vultures come out..
But her name doesn't get thrown into every conversation like Adele's and Rihanna's do.

I think very few people dislike Beyonce, but when they do they REALLY do. They'll call her fake and say she bleaches her skin etc.

Whereas someone like Alexandra Burke has people who have no specific reason to dislike her they just do. But it's not that agressive.

Taylor Swift is another, although I haven't been on here long enough to have seen how she's recieved here. Maybe she gets loads of negativity.

I agree, it's very confusing. Pink could easily go over the borderline, yet she herself chooses to stay there. It's a shame that she is 'easy to forget' about because I think that she's infinitely more talented than most of her peers.

I'd say Kelly Clarkson, Florence and the Machine and Alicia Keys
