Now I know what's been wrong

Having just enjoyed the Final Five, I think I know why this series hasn't worked for me. It's the editing. Final Five was interesting, told us loads about the candidates - their abilities rather than their childhoods - and developed aspects of the tasks. My problem with this series is we just haven't seen enough of the actual task - it's been far too much boardroom and that must be down to the editing.

After two pages of people offering solutions, I'm glad you've figured it out!

But seriously, I hope you stick to the last two episodes!

The episodes this year do seem to have focussed more on the candidates' blunders than showing us their personalities. The Final Five was quite revealing about some of them, and it also foreshadowed some of the events of last night's episode, such as Nick's lack of assertiveness.

Pretty sure the boardroom's exactly as long as it's been for at least a few years now? Always begins around the 35-minute mark. Give or take - it was two minutes early, last week, I think - but there's no big change this year. Used to be a little more flexible, granted, but not since... ohhh, series 3, perhaps? That's at the very latest - boardroom's started at 9:35PM pretty reliably for at least half a decade.

Agree that we're not seeing quite as much of them interacting this series, though. Half of it doesn't come out until You're Fired. Jenna and Gabrielle's friendship was lovely, but not a glimmer of it in the main programme - and it turns out Adam and Ricky were thick as thieves, too. Who'd have guessed?

I've always said that the show should be an hour of the task & characters and then a half hour show next night in the Boardroom. We don't get to 'meet' the candidates properly, nor is there enough time to fit everyone in . But that format wouldn't work now ,since the show is losing popularity.

The candiates have all been a bit tame this year.

To be honest the show knows that the boardroom is where the real talked-about events happen, so they try to get to it as soon as they can and make a meal out of it.

I do it myself, I look forward to the boardroom within the first 15 minutes of the show starting.

Plus it was interesting how the Final Five show was focussing on the positives and was generally quite enjoyable, whereas the tasks tend to focus on the negatives and are getting quite tedious.
