So this is THQ's last hurrah by openly declaring wrestlers of today just don't sell as well as the Attitude Era guys. Does seem to be somewhat of a merger of two potential games, a classic Attitude Era game and the normal WWE 13 game, where they could have done the old if you buy both games you could use wrestlers from both games in either game.
Can see many issues with the roster already from this, a lot of wrestlers from the Attitude Era missing despite playing key roles in it (Test, The Hardy Boyz, Owen Hart, The Dudleyz etc) then having repeated characters like HHH, Undertaker, Jericho, Show, Kane... unless they are alt attires, which end up being blotched like most of the time. Then the current day roster which is going to miss a lot of the low card, whilst not really that important but will virtually kill off the need for NxT and Superstars in Universe mode. Then there is the question of when did the Attitude Era begin, did it start with Austin beating HBK for the title, if so, does that mean no Bret? Pillman? Two guys at the forefront of the Austin character and change in direction of the WWF. Thats before even the discussion of servers and gameplay are raised. |

A lot of people see the Attitude era beginning on the night of the Montreal Screwjob, so if they go down that road they'll be fine.

In my opinion, rightly or wrongly, the Attitude era started around 1997.
Wiki states... ![]() Attitude era started mid-to-late 90's and ended in early 2000's. |

EDIT: I hope the classic winge eagle championship along with the old belts is in it before being changed to the smoking skull then attitude belts. The smoking skull belt was a big part of the Attitude era starting imo |

Just glossing over the glaring gameplay faults that have been present since the first ever game, I'm afraid.

I'd say the Attitude Era begun with Austin's 3:16 promo in 1996 and it very slowly built up to 1997 where it begun full speed.

Ah you may be right then really 1997-2002 makes more sense. WWF becoming WWE, the draft etc makes more sense as it certainly was the start of a new era.

My opinion is, despise official or unofficial info, is that the attitude era began in 95/96. In 1995 you could see the WWF at the time becoming a bit more edgier and aggressive than normal, storylines and matches were more darker and aggressive than the colourful and cheery era we saw in the late 80's and early 90's. Around that time the WWF had a working relationship with ECW and in 96 I think it was you saw numerous ECW wrestlers wrestle on WWF tv. 96 was also of course the birth of Stone Cold and the nWo and wrestling began to see a revolution as the Monday Night Wars really began to get ramped up. And thats why I think it began during that period. If you look at the characters of Diesel and Razor in the WWF they displayed the qualities of the Attitude Era long before the Attitude Era began.
The Montreal Screwjob in 97 to me wasn't the start of the Attitude Era, but it was the punch to the face we got that made us realise that the Attitude Era had arrived. I can see why people use the Screwjob as a focal point because of the impact it made on wrestling but to me the seeds were sown long before that. Still I'm looking forward to this for the first time in years I might actually buy a WWE game. |

No Owen Hart, no Hardys, no Dudleys, no APA, no Kurt Angle, no Tazz, no RVD (despite not coming in until at the end). Too many missing from the Attitude roster at this stage. I know a lot of them are in TNA now but still that didn't stop RVD competing in the Royal Rumble a few years ago or Ric Flair attending HoF this year.

But the rest, esp the Hardys and Dudleys were a big part of the Attitude era. Kurt Angle was brilliant in the Attitude days. The story line just before the invasion angle with him and Stone Cold basically competing to kiss up to Vince was great. I guess they might be saving them or others for DLC. Who knows at this stage. Just me being difficult and wanting everyone in it from the Attitude days lol |
