Inspired by a similarly positive thread.

This isnt about personal opinions necessarily, but who in modern music do you see taking a lot of flack / backlash for their music / personal life?

I'd have to say for me its Chris Brown (still over the Rihanna thing), Jessie J (whose tide seems to be turning after her stint on the Voice and also her seeming overexposure) and of course I have to give a nod to Simon Cowell

Well, in real life its Chris Brown, and on DS, its poor Cheryl Cole, the woman can never catch a break!

it appears to be Cheryl Cole. Can't see why really, her music's rubbish but that doesn't set her apart and at least she has a sense of humour and some personality

Chris Brown, Gaga and Bieber

I also think more recently that Alexandra Burke has a lot of hate towards her

I don't think Cheryl is hated in general, just on music forums. Alexandra on the other hand....

I must've missed that particular 5 minutes of X-Factor.

Pete Doherty sadly. I'd hazard a guess that 99 out of 100 people that hate him have never even heard a single one of his songs.

Personally, I love him, a very talented and intelligent man.

Chris Brown is the only one I really, really dislike. There are some others are find irritating (e.g. Jessie J/Bieber), but nothing close to hatred.

Luckily, Chris Brown keeps on making extraordinarily shit music so I'm never faced with the moral dilemma of liking a song by such an appalling person.

Chris Brown....
I've never seen an artist's career take such a nose dive in terms of popularity.

Before that incident he was pretty much the man..

I was probably in year 11 when the news came out, and prior to it happening pretty much EVERY girl in the school that I knew liked him, and a good chunk were obssesed with him.
Every "bebo" was filled with things about him.. With the singles off of Exclusive and No Air - all you heard being played anywhere was his music. Even the guys loved him, and dressed like him etc.

And then his real character came out... he handled the situation so badly, and he just seems to have such anger issues. And he seems to be trying to be a hardman now..
Nobody talks about his music anymore just Rihanna.

I'm convinced Bieber wouldn't be as big as he is if Chris Brown hadn't messed up.

I take the point that the controversy does overshadow his music sometimes but i have to disagree with that. What about Chris' first no1 album in 2010 and recent grammy for best RnB album and Uk no1? Lots of people like his music imo.

I'm a fan of his. Not as much as I was before, but that's more to do with his music.
But he'd have achieved soooo much more without the Rihanna buisness.

I just think his mass appeal has fallen. In a room of 10 people they'll always be two or three who don't like him at all, when before there were none.

He's a good looking guy and so plenty of girls don't care about any of the negatives, so he'll still sell, but he's now selling the same number of albums as Trey Songz, when he never was before. He wouldn't have without messing it up.

I think he still has casual fans who look up videos on youtube etc. because he's a great entertainer, but he's not selling albums to those people like before.

He should be selling the same number of records as Rihanna, and may have done without all that buisness.

He is recovering as you pointed out, however he's taken a big backlash imo.

You'd be hard pressed to find an article online where somebody doesn't comment they don't like him, or mention him being a beater.. So I'd call it a backlash.

Alot are saying Cheryl but that's only on music forums mainly. For every 1 person that detests her, there's about 10 that adore her. Similar with Justin Bieber.

Chris Brown seems to be about 50/50, alot of people haven't forgave him for what he's done to Rihanna but he seems to be having success again now, which shows maybe people are moving on from it.

Alexandra Burke always annoyed some people but since that X-Factor appearance, she's cemented herself as "annoying" by the public it seems. Unlike Bieber, Cheryl, Gaga, she doesn't have that major support to block out the extreme hate.

However, I guess he's also less popular because he's older now too, and appeals less to the teenage girls. So it's not all down to the incident.

3 $pirit, I'm not saying his career is finshed, or he's not ever going to do well.
But I really can't see him having the sucess he would have had. He's always going to have to convince many people to accept him, so I consider this a backlash.

Chris was the sort of artist who would do a show on T.V. and make tons of new fans right there from his performance on the show. Now the casual public won't become a fan of his.

I agree that he isnt as successful as he was, i just took issue with the phrase that no-one talks about his music anymore. I would definitely say there has been a very big backlash even CM Punk has had his say lol. One of the reasons he sells less is also partly down to his music being less commercial and his music being more urban plus he doesnt doany promo at all anymore which doesnt help. I think he has a great little niche now as being the biggest urban singer around as can be told by loads of people wanting him on their songs.Overall tho i think his career is slowly recovering
BTW i think I dont think Rihanna is doing that much better than him at the moment either tbh

I guess we're kind of in agreement .
Anyway..... Alexandra Burke is another who seems to get quite abit of flack from the public.
Probably more so than Cheryl.

All of them.

Every single one. Every single ugly soul of theirs.

(Except they don't have souls.)

Popstars suck in every sense of the word. Spreading their disgusting messages along with their chubby, fake-tanned thighs, turning this generation into brainwashed, hollow shells. Potential in thousands or possibly millions of individuals (ironic use of that word) has been wasted in favour of becoming belly dancing, shot drinking nymphomaniacs with no brain cells or morals. I wish we could go back to the good old days. Living on this planet makes me feel soulless.

I agree with this since 2000 everything has been crap. In fact everything from the 90s, 80s, 70s and the awful Beatles has been utter shite. There has probably been no-one good since Beethoven imo

I'm noticing the Minaj getting a lot of hate. Maybe her sub Gaga attention seeking shock tactics, commercial sell out, skin whitening and annoying accents are putting people off...

Anyone who is popular at the moment appears to have a hate following. Unfortunately we appear to live in an era where people spend so much time hating others.
I think good luck to every single personality if they can make a career out of 15 minutes of fame good for them.
I would love to know what most the haters actually do for themselves and why have they became so twisted in there thoughts that they actually share the despise of life and celebrities.
There are lots of artists that I don't particularly like or listen too but I can't honestly say I hate them as I dont know them. I may express an opinion of their music but don't feel the need to spout venomous hatred about them.
Reading most forums it appears people being jealous of artists doing well and or fans seeing another artist being a threat to who they like. Especially in the charts it appears fans of other artists can't wait to see them failing to chart Or get to no.1.
There has always been fan rivalry but the Internet appears to fuel this to new depths of hatred. If these people put there energy and hatred into positive things i amsure they would be a lot happier in life. All hatred does is fester inside and become an unhealthy obsession. Enjoy life you only get one chance why waste it hating people.
