Advice please on Sky+ box no/sub
Hi, not entirely sure this is the right place, but will ask anyways. I have had (up until about half an hour ago) a working sky+ box, one feed coming in. I was using a card where the subscription ended a 2 or 3 maybe 4 years. Despite the end of the sub, I have been able to pause, record one channel, and watch something off the planner. The sub was on my mum's bill with sky. I have read places that you had to have a sub to be able to record when its just freesat from sky, but some reason, I have had the ability to record, and there has never been a charge on my mums account, so have been lucky.
So today, just finished watching an episode of Judge Judy (my current TV addiction) left the planner, and as happens from time to time, 'No satellite signal being received' shows up. Im use to this. I turn the box off (on the front, not at the switch) take the feed out, and put it into the other input in the back of the box. Turn it back, and most of the time, it gets signal. I do this, turn the box back on, and the box makes a clicking sound, turn it off for a few minutes, turn back on, and through the vents see the circuit boards glow up red like it was going to set on fire! Its now sat in the back garden, and Im slightly gutted, I have grown more than use to being able to pause and rewind, even with just one signal feed going in. My question, was my ability to use the recording/pause features to do with my sky card, or was it something to do with the box itself. I have saw some boxes on amazon at about £16 or so and would like to get one. But wouldnt want to if the recording feature was to do with card as I do have a spare sky box - the caveman version... no recording ability. Just dont want to get a new box and find that it was a waste of money. Thanks in advance for any advice. It just feels like Im stepping back in time not being able to pause and record. |

Your card missed the kill signal which was sent to it (continuously) for up to three months after you cancelled your subscription. A second Sky+ box with the same card in it might allow you to continue using Sky+ functionality - but as the card and (new) box will be no longer paired, I wouldn't bet on it.
A Freesat PVR obviously will allow you to record the free channels which you can receive. |

I believe the card does not need pairing to record the FTA channels, and as that is basically all the OP will have (as i also believe if it's the old card, FTV won't work anyway), so should work fine in another box.
PS - Should have been in the Sky forum, as this has absolutely nothing to do with Freesat. |
