basically my decision is going to save or loose me £100 for the same device just with or without 4g/cell.
Im just stuck on this issue or else it will be a ipad3 straight away today.

I have a smart phone with the ability to teather the mobile broadband. So hopefully i can use that when i ever need the internet out and about on my ipad .

however what else will i loose out on if i go with the wifi only version?

Go for the wifi one.
I'm not sure the 3G/4G ones are that popular actually. As you say, smartphones can either tether the ipad for you or you can just use the phone anyway. Save the £100.

It's not just a case of an extra £100 though it's also the added monthly cost of an additional data plan too.

I got the wifi only version and use my iPhone to tether saving me the £100 extra plus I'm saving monthly by not having to pay for an additional data plan.

Jeez I totally forgot about that ! - even Pay as You Go will just add to my mobile BB bill.

So apart from 4G/cell that's it? I believe GPS isn't included too - but again, the phone and sat nav do that.

Yep you only get GPS on a WiFi iPad if you tether to an iPhone. But it's not that big a deal.

Go for the WiFi only.

If you can already tether anyway, so don't need the "Cellular" version for data, the only other thing the extra £100 will give you is GPS. Not really worth it when, as you say, you have it on your phone anyway.

I've got a WiFi only iPad 3 (and before that had a WiFi only iPad 2). I've never missed having 3G or GPS on it. On the rare occasion I'm using it somewhere without WiFi, I just tether it...

Using the iPad with its comparatively big screen as a sat nav compared to a normal sat nav will require the cell model for the GPS function. I actually use it quite a bit to get a much bigger picture of where I am at and where I am going.

I believe the cell model also has a higher resale value.

It has nothing to with my vision (20/20, by the way) but just so much more terrain that can fit on the much bigger screen.
