#17 in todays midweeks and barely seemingly stalling on iTunes, I'm sure everyone predicted this to be a massive selling #1...

I just heard it for the first time. It's so cringey anyway. Is is an original song because he just proves again what an awful songwriter he is.

Thanks the Lord above!! I was convinced it would be number 1 - terrible mushy drivel written by the over praised dullard Barlow. Can't stand those Military Wives either - ESPECIALLY the conductor and his bowtie awfulness.

Oh, he has a new song out? I didnt even know lol.

I thought the EP was long enough to qualify for the album charts? So the #17 will be based just on those people who downloaded the song only from iTunes, I think?

(I agree with the cringey comments though...)

Why have people in this country become so hard and negative about everything? This country used to be full of hope and optimism. Now it's all slag off, moan and self righteousness. Gary Barlow has co-written a song to commemorate our head of states 60 year reign. It is incredible that we have had stability and continuity (which is what the Queen basically represents) for so long. Never again in our lifetimes will we be able to commemorate such an event. If you don't like Gary Barlow that's fine. If you don't support the monarchy, that's fine too. But honestly, there's really no need to be so miserable and negative about everything.

With regards to the Military Wives. I guess unless you have a loved one at risk of losing their life every day while fighting to make our lives safer, then I don't think you can really appreciate the emotion and trauma these ladies are going through. My sister's husband died in Iraq in 2005. If my sister had a group of women she could associate with, who could get together to collectively do something positive for their loved ones while helping to ease their own grief and anxieties, she might have coped better.

It makes "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma" seem cutting edge and without feeling

Ooh so its #2 in the albums as its a long ep and #17 as a standalone single... not sure what to make of what as album sales are low, although the album chart is made up of lots of new entries, but i dont see Paloma Faith as having a massive amount sold

Apparently Paloma Faith is 3,500 ahead so far but this article says 'only 3500' which implies that sales must be up a lot on last week when #1 only sold about 13,500.

I think Paloma should sell around 50,000.

Hmm the EP may beat Paloma then depending on what promo it gets across the weekend but it will drop like a stone after Tuesday. Very pleased for Paloma who is off to a good start with campaign #2, much better then how Alexandra Burke is going atm

Very well said, there's a vocal element in this country (and on this forum) that seem to feed on negativity and take great delight in belittling anything that doesn't suit their own narrow mindset.

Rather sad really.

But in my opinion it's a terrible dull song and seems to have be you *have* to buy it because a bunch of women who just happen to be wives of soldiers are singing it. Fair enough if they want to release a product to raise money go for it, but let's not assume we must partake in buying a product which *imo* is shoddy just because of who they are.

Well said. This isn't about negativity or wanting people to fail. If you want to release a song you have to expect praise AND criticism.

Nobody is forced to buy any of those songs.

Big deal if the Queens been there for 60 years. Did we ask her? No. Did we vote her? No.
Due to luck of circumstance and birth she, and her massive brood, have been living the high life on our taxes all that time and we're being asked, or having it rammed down our throats, to celebrate. Basically theyre like plummy voiced benefit cheats doing nothing and living of the state.

BIB2
It's a job. No one forces them to sign up. No one forces them to sign up, start a family and piss of to Fight. Its a choice. There are other safer jobs available. So if you chose that line of work don't be surprised when the inevitable happens and you have to go to war or get involved in dangerous situations. It's not a secret what the army is all about. Joiners build, plummers plum and armed forces fight. News flash!

Probably have an effect for two days and then retreat down to the lower end of the UK Singles Chart.

We all like different things and regardless of their marital status I find the whole thing contrived - I'd have more respect for their music if they weren't built entirely on the fact they are Military Wives...

the cover is rather dreadful...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._my_dreams.jpg,

The Tracklisting - All songs based around their husband's job and missing them terribly (2 or 3 songs, but the whole album??). I presume they're saving "In The Army Now" for album #2 and "Stop The Cavalry" for the Xmas record.

1. "Make You Feel My Love" Bob Dylan 3:07
2. "In My Dreams" (featuring Jon-Joseph Kerr) Paul Mealor 3:17
3. "With Or Without You" U2 3:59
4. "Up Where We Belong (Love Lift Us Up)" Will Jennings Jack Nitzsche and Buffy Sainte-Marie 4:17
5. "True Love Ways" Buddy Holly and Norman Petty 3:12
6. "You've Got A Friend" Carole King 4:21
7. "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" William Whiting John Bacchus Dykes 3:24
8. "Fix You" Coldplay (Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion) 4:00
9. "Silver Tassie" 4:03
10. "On My Own" Herbert Kretzmer Claude-Michel Schönberg 2:58
11. "Wherever You Are" Paul Mealor 2:51

....I thought the majority of the sales went to charity, but see that a massive £1 from each record is heading that way.
Hard and negative? probably - should I pretend to like it because of the "Our Boys" connection?

I put it down to decades of the country being run by traitors and fools, who among other things brought us the ghastly specter of Political Correctness.

Once upon a time;

- kids growing up knew their boundaries.
- men and women had complimentary roles.
- those we voted into power actually ran the country.
- the Special Relationship was not such a big joke
- the law was not heavily biased in favour of violent criminals.
- tv had a fewer channels but more on them of merit.
- being famous was a by-product of talent, not a job itself.
- if a politician was caught red-handed, he resigned.
- Simon Cowell was a mail boy.
- freedom of thought was encouraged.

Today, none of the above apply. In the face of that, it is easy to give up. But not essential.
