The soulless "music" today; where have the good old days gone?
Why is music today so soulless? And more importantly, why are there humans out there purchasing it?
Popstars today are the most morally devoid skanks I have ever come across, and the worst thing is, the people who listen to it are just as bad. Ugly on the inside and out, the music industry has lost its way completely and is breeding a generation of decrepit nymphomaniacs, idolising their musical counterparts. Terms such as 'musician' and 'artist' being bandied about in reference to cheap tarts in the charts makes the bile in my liver rise up my oesophogus. Music is dead. Real music no longer exists and it's a crime that makes me want to cry out hot, angry tears for this generation and generations to come. So I propose this question to you, the folk of Digital Spy; do you all have no souls? Since I have joined, all I have witnessed are endless threads discussing the worst of the worst. The most morally devoid of the morally devoid. The most soulless of the soulless. Please tell me; what is so appealing about the inane, vapid lyrics set over the droning, soul-destroying backing track created by some waster in a crack den, sung by a piteous excuse for a human being who has spent more hours on her knees than she has reading classic poetry? What is so appealing about this? It's a formula for disaster. I can't begin to understand. And to any intelligent, sane-minded folk who happen to be browsing through the forum this evening; what do you think went wrong? Where have the good old days gone? Thank you. |

Why don't you just listen to the older 'soulful' music then? Its not as if they've deleted it from existence, in fact its easier than ever to listen to.

Have you tried looking outside of the charts? Maybe you'll find "real music" there.
Just a suggestion

Why do people seem to care so much about music they don't like? Just listen to stuff you do like.
And If you can't find any it's not because there's none out there, its because you're not looking hard enough. |

I don't mean to be rude but f*** off with these "soulless" comments you keep making, that's your opinion and your posts are very condescending as if anyone who enjoys current music is an idiot. If you don't want to see discussion of modern popstars then why did you join a music forum?

And here's the fortnightly thread on "What happened to pop music?"
This topic has been done to death and I can guarantee that this idea that things were better in the past will rage on for as long as there are people on this earth. I visited my Gran the other day who was complaining that the music my Dad listened to was complete and utter rubbish, couldn't hold up to the great music of her day...and guess what my Dad said exactly the same about the music of today. And anyone proposing that they're above the shitty music around today who then goes on to bemoan the "charts" loses all credibility. There is plenty of music around today that isn't in the charts and with the internet its now easily accessible. So here's a proposal instead of wasting your like making redundant threads like these go out there and search for music you actually like! |

If music is played in your work, chances are you won't be able to control what is listened to it'll be head office dictated. Also on nights out pubs and clubs play all this crap. If you're on a night out its hard to avoid. Even harder if you don't live in a town or city with a choice or variety of venues for a night out. |

It's easy to say that but avoiding a lot of this crap isn't easy.

Actually, the thought of someone like the OP being stuck in an office all day being forced to listen to Capital radio or whatever did just make me laugh.

When you get stuck in that situation, I can assure you there is nothing funny about it. It is totally soulf destroying having to listen to absolute gash for 8 or 9 hours a day.
I'm not being facetious, Shane, honestly I'm not, but if it really affect you as much as you claim have you ever thought about finding a job that doesn't play the radio during work time?

But I think it might turn the OP in to a potential serial killer, so I probably shouldn't joke about this stuff.... |

Supposedly one of the golden years really wasn't. And b) Good stuff is out there but it rarely finds itself in the singles chart what i would like to know is why guitar music lovers for e.g. stopped buying singles when downloads came in but dance (a.k.a. non music ) lovers carried on. I think there's probably a logical answer to that but i'm not sure what it is.

That's the way mainstream pop has been for decades, it's not a new thing at all.

This. I also think there are people on this forum who basically aren't happy unless they have something to complain/whine about.

Actually I joined this forum for the very reason some of the brainwashed twerps of the thread have been nagging me about - to look past the garbage of today's music and find something new that is also rich in respect and dignity. Instead, what was I presented with?

Britney Spears, Rihanna, and all those other pop stars may not be that musically talented, but in my opinion, the people that compose the music to those songs are. All those pop stars will remain popular as long as they keep releasing catchy songs tbh.
