Take a look around you! Feminism is basically against the patriarchy....the system that allows and encourages ambitious and strong men to succeed at the expense of others, primarily women. But when you see the amount of men who commit suicide, end up in dangerous jobs etc. because they do not fit the stereotypical alpha-male role, you can see that PATRIARCHY DOES NOT WORK!

So feminism wants to see a FAIR system whereby EVERYONE is treated the same...not just women and men, but all kinds of women and men.

It is merely called feminism because women were and remain the primary group who are oppressed by the patriarchal system and women were the ones to fight back.

I am always wary of any person who opposes feminism and does so by insulting and attempting to silence (for that is the crux) those people who challenge sexism wherever they see it. That goes for the OP.

Which is what I meant MrsW and mentioned as much in my earlier posts. All fallen on deaf ears as expected tbh.

Why is my subjective assessment of a woman's attractiveness "problematic"? Unproductive possibly, but I was just following a thread of the conversation about who someone's husband found attractive.

I wouldn't say it is particularly humanist to defy the attraction people feel towards others.

If you think a man being attracted to a woman is somehow a outmoded patriarchal throwback, you're ignoring what is an inescapable biological imperative for both sexes.

If I let it have an overbearing impression on my opinion about that woman I'd say it was problematic, but I'd like to think I'm a bit more self-aware than that.

Being attracted to the opposite or same sex is natural depending on your inclinations. Bringing attractiveness into a discussion that is about sexism is either obtuse or ignorant. I know you didn't start it as I mentioned this very thing in a post earlier in the thread when it was being discussed.

If you can't see it as problematic in this scenario then so be it but I'm amazed.

Ok, fair enough, my comment about Laura was rude. I don't think my post was problematic as I didn't say that was the sum of her worth, but it is unproductive in regards to the point of the thread.

I see no raging feminism. I like Karen on Apprentice and I think she has always been fair and straightforward to every candidate.

If she wants to give a boost to any female candidate I don't see any harm in that . The proportion of men to women in high places in industry is ludicrous.

Anyway I always felt LS prefers men to women in his working environment and so will be inclined to choose the male candidates.

I agree. It's funny that not many reacted badly to Margaret doing the same when she was part of the Apprentice. So I think Karren's age might have something to do with it as well.

They KNOW it is problematic. But these men are so desperate for attention and to have their ego stroked they do this BECAUSE it is problematic - they just need the attention!!!

I don't really think the subject of the thread has any bearing, to be honest. Either it's wrong to discuss women's attractiveness or it isn't.

It might well be seen as sexist, but bear in mind that the appearances of the male contestants have also had plenty of comments too, from those, whether heterosexual women or gay men, who are attracted in that direction. Overall, therefore, I don't think it is sexist. I have, after all, mentioned Laura's abilities as a candidate elsewhere, not just her looks.
