Not a massive Syed fan, though - more recently, but have always found him slightly bland and not always likeable to make up for it.
Totally agree about Christian All characters have their flaws, and it sounds weird but I love Christian's flaws - they are in character with his strengths - he's incredibly honest but this means he sometimes comes across as selfish - however, despite them he doesn't have a spiteful bone in his body

For Syed, I find it a similar thing - his flaws (indecisiveness and a need to please everyone) although maybe make him seem weak, I believe he actually has some incredible inner strength, and like Christian, is just not a spiteful character and is a refreshing change from the rest.

I know, tell me about it I'm hoping that'll change in the latter half of the year though...hopefully!

Pat, by a country mile, but I've given extra votes to Frank, Lou, Sharon, Kathy and Janine.

The inclusion of Clare Butcher on this poll and exclusion of many other enormous characters baffles me just a little.

I think Christian IS very selfish on occasion, but unlike some characters, it comes off as a genuine, ongoing character trait than just an excuse to further on a plot (I have found Kirkwoods writers seem to have done this a lot)

I see what you mean about Syed - I do NOT think he is an inherently bad person at all - the fact that they are both selfish to a degree actually makes me like em as a couple - they are similar and different in the way a couple should be

Oh, he is - but yes, it's a character trait he's always had, just like he's always had his honesty, I like that that's been a consistent thing. And while he has been selfish and impulsive, he's also done some extremely selfless things too.

I'm not sure I'd ever call Syed selfish though - it was his selflessness which was pretty much the reason behind their original storyline; but their similar need to try and do the right thing, even if it turns out to be the wrong thing sometimes; and their similar generosity and good nature are important things they share, even while their individual traits are so different

With Syed, actually maybe not SO much selfish as occasionally a bit weak willed maybe?

Yes, I'll give you that - this thing he has of trying to do the right thing and please everyone can make him come across as weak-willed, especially during the original story and during the recent one with Amira. But there are occasions where he's the opposite, like his strong opinion on Yusef, adamancy that Tamwar was going to be able to see Afia back when they first started going out, and his refusal to let a bad word be said about Christian (even on his wedding day, that's what made him confess to Zainab that he was gay).

Mhm - quite a layered character on occasion, but I think the performance is often a tad bland - though weirdly during some of the heightened emotional moments, Marc elliot has been pretty good

Oh I couldn't agree - I think Marc's brilliant The blandness you're perceiving might be intentional? In that Syed's generally a reserved character and is shown to bottle his feelings up when he feels they don't matter? Of course it's all subjective though!

fraid not - just think , whilst likeable, he can be a bit on the meh side for me, but like you said, quality is subjective a lot of the time

This poll is sooooo hard! I think it's harder than if you'd just have limited it to one!

It makes me question how much I really like characters. There are so many I like, but probably not equally, so do I give them a sympathy tick, or do I be strict and harsh and limit my ticks for the special few. I don't want to be a tick slut and start ticking just for the sake of it.
