I was delighted when Amazon sent me an email on Monday morning to say that I should receive my order on Monday 25th, previously it was a 1-3 weeks despatch, which would have been early July.

Even better news when I got an email late last night to say it had been dispatched for delivery today.

But then I discovered that it was being sent by City Link. They let me down on a delivery before and I had to go to their depot in Newmarket to collect the package. And guess what? The useless bastards have let me down again and my lovely new pebble blue Galaxy S3 is sitting in their network. I can choose to collect it tomorrow after work (a total of nearly an hour detour from my usual route home) or have them redeliver it on Friday. I don't trust them to do that so I'll have to make another trip to Newmarket.

Why do Amazon use this useless carrier company? Yeah I know they're cheap, but it can't be dong their reputation much good.

I have not tired another networks sim card in it though. However I would guess it would come locked to Vodafone, if you got it on a contract. Which isnt a problem, if you plan on rooting your phone.
That's a shame. Looks like it's branded with Vodafone apps and not 100% vanilla which is what i was hoping for.

Im glad to say I picked mine up from the Vodafone shop today (ordered it online to there) and Im loving it so far although have not had much time to play as leaving it on charge).

The downside is I dropped my HTC HD2 that I have had for 2.5 years today that I was going to sell and got its first bit of damage! A cracked glass! So have ordered a replacement glass off Ebay from Hong Kong for £11 so I can replace and sell it.

If you read the second link though he claims it was just in a mount not attached to any charger etc. Very concerning if true could happen at any point.

I wouldnt go as far as to say they have branded the phone with their apps. They have installed two apps, one (discover) can be disabled. Appselect can not be uninstalled. There is no other vodafone logo anywhere. To be honest I dont think they have had time to do much with the phones. Maybe if you bought it 6 months down the line it would be a different matter.

I plan on rooting my phone, and installing a vanilla ICS rom. Thus any branding and touchwiz will be totally removed.

But rooting your phone means you void your warranty doesn't it? It's a very expensive phone and as a result, i'm not prepared to take that risk frankly.

Just an update to say that I got my 16gb blue one a couple of days ago and am loving it.

I used it for a full day yesterday from 7am until 10pm and then still had over 20% of battery left so I left it running iPlayer over my WiFi for a while to totally drain the battery so I could charge it fully whilst switched off last night.

Vodafone should be swapping my old number today, Barclays have been updated so it should be insured in 7 days and just have to go into the Vodafone shop when the number is switched to get my 20% staff discount so everything is good.

Just copying 15gb+ of photos to my 64gb SD card now and they seem to be going ok.

It's a hell of an upgrade from my HTC HD2 that I think really needs a reset as it's locking up all the time.

You can always unroot the phone if you need to get it fixed under warranty. You just need to flash the phone with the stock rom, and remember to run the 'triangles away'. Its a fairly straight forward process.

I rooted my cheap Blade after a month but there is no way I would root an expensive phone without very good reason and risk the 2 year warranty.

I was in 3 in Birmingham city centre last Saturday with a friend who was replacing a lost iphone when on the spur of the moment decided to get the S3. 10 mins later I was the proud owner of a blue S3 on a 24 month, all you can eat data package. I didn't realise so many people were having trouble getting hold of them or were having to wait weeks. Impressive phone, it's my first smart phone.

Had an Iphone for the past 2 years which has been excellent......except for having to use Itunes.
Got a Sammy S3 white (albeit with a blue gel case) this week and I LOVE it!!!

Dragging and dropping videos, pics, songs....so easy, the phone is gorgeous, after a few days I've worked out where everything is, how to d/l my favourite apps (BBC, Ebay, Amazon, Facebook etc) Couldn't be happier.

Showed a workmate the quality of the video with an episode of Futurama, agreed it was superb quality, but said he still prefered the Iphone WTF!!!!

It's like Marmite, the iPhone, some people love it, some people hate it. Doesn't make either of them wrong.

Other half looked at the S3, had a play in the store (I encouraged him to go in), but after asking lots of questions and agreeing how fast it was, how great the screen was, he then said he didn't feel it was heavy enough and that he preferred the weight of the iPhone 4. I still think he would have enjoyed the S3 on his daily commute, but it wasn't for him.

He doesn't like Marmite either!

I never watch TV or movies on my phone so the quality of the video, even if it's amazing, is fairly irrelevant when I come to choose a new handset. Everyone have different criteria and it's hardly as if the iPhone is terrible for video - it's better than most phones good enough for the vast majority of people.

The quality of video is not the be all and end all -

After the hassle with the useless City Link I got hold of the phone from their depot on Thursday.

I am really impressed with it do far, but after so long with using iOS Android is taking some getting used to. It's got some really nice features that I wish iOS had.

Even though I'm using PAYG it even allowed me to tether my iPad to it, something I couldnt do with the iPhone, which I think required a contract to work on Orange.

I have two gripes though. One is that it will not work with the wifi router at work (a Zyxel, can't remember which model though). It also has trouble connecting via USB on my Mac. It won't show up as a drive in the Finder and the Kies software seems rather slow and buggy. I'll try again under Windows 7. I did manage to get all my music transferred from iTunes onto the S3. I used an app from both the Apple App Stores and Google Play to move my contacts from the old phone to the new, couldn't seem to get it working through iTunes/Gmail.

A shame about the connectivity problems, but really enjoying this and can't wait to realise the full potential of this device.

He would have preferred the battery on his commute, the battery is far superior to the one in the iPhone.

The Zyxel might need a firmware update. There is supposedly a free iTune sync app now from Samsung.
The SD card needs mounting via the phone to access as a drive on a Mac/PC.

After owning my white S3 for a week, I can say it is an amazing phone. Lovely screen, really quick, faultless GPS and good sound/call quality etc etc 10/10
