Sons & Daughters: Charlie Bartlett
I've just watched todays S&D episodes and i noticed Charlie is not using any facial expressions and is talking strangly. Was this around the time when Sarah Kemp was bitten on the face by a dog and had to undergo plastic surgery to remove all the scars?

not watched them yet, but hasn't she always talked stangely?
And isn't it Pat who had to undergo plastic surgery ? I hope this morning's episodes are better than last weeks, although the announcer was on great form last Sunday. |

you were right Safra, this is what happened :
There was as much drama behind the cameras as in front of them when Sons and Daughters filmed its 800th episode - the wedding of Wayne Hamilton and Susan Palmer (Ian Rawlings and Oriana Panozzo). Two key actors were involved in serious accidents and unseasonal, torrential rain almost forced the cancellation of an outdoor shoot in Queensland. Just days before the wedding was to be filmed, Sarah Kemp, who plays ding-a-ling Charlie Bartlett, was savaged by a dog at a telethon and had to undergo plastic surgery to remove scars. Charlie is an important character in the lead-up to the wedding. Sarah was in such pain at the time of the filming that she had to be heavily sedated. Oriana, who plays the blushing bride, was the next victim of misfortune. Just one day after the wedding episode was filmed the beautiful actress was involved in a car crash and rushed to hospital with burst blood vessels in one eye and lacerations to her face. The accident could not have happened at a worse time as filming of the wedding couple's honeymoon in Queensland was set for the following week. And because Oriana was required in almost every scene, the important shoot had to be delayed. Fate was still unkind to Sons and Daughters' producers as the new week set for filming marked the end of Noosa's five-month drought - it rained for four days at the outdoor location. But as the old showbusiness adage goes, the show must - and did - go on. ************* I noticed at the start of the first episode they filmed her from a distance but then she did have a close-up shot. ![]() The painkillers could explain the way she was talking. But the scene when she was talking to Alison on the couch was scary. All that white make-up !

She did look very odd, did Kemp not quit acting soon after the Seven Network cancelled it? She became a teacher or something?

Sarah Kemp, whose stage name at the time was Gypsy Kemp, was in Dr Who in 1972. |

well i loved this week's episodes.
Alison was on great form again ("the only think you'll ever open is your big mouth", that was good). That guy with yellow hair was hilarious. Charlie noticing Ginny's outfit was so... Charlie, she'll probably start dressing like her soon. Beryl and Wayne's little walk on the road was so quaint and cute considering he'd just abducted Robert. Laura saying she had Doug's suite made me laugh. Glen was supposed to be in Bali so all we saw was him, a wall , a plant and a poster reading...Bali , for buget reasons. The ball was great but I knew Owen's mum was Connie when May and Fiona started talking about her beforehand, then I saw the masks and I was sure. Janice scrubbed up all right but Owen looked exactly the same

Charlie sure was talking funny. The giveaway was at the Ball when Charlie had a full mask instead of the "eye" masks everybody else was wearing.
Best line for me was Alison "She probably thinks Liberace is an Italian sausage!" LOL Agreed msf. Wayne and Beryl walked along as if they were friends rather than total enemies. Didn't David change his mind quick about Laura Banning? She reminds me of somebody - that woman from Dynasty was it Ali McGraw. I can't remember if that's her name, but someone from Dynasty. |

What do you reckon about what the announcer said : Gordon knows Alison is Patricia, so his comment was a bit weird, or did I miss something ? |

I think the core of original actors who remained on the show for a good while were definitely the best performers.
The guy who played David (Tom Richards) was/is pretty average as an actor I think, always had his hands on his pockets or hands on hips or his foot on a chair, very uncomfortable to watch. Ian Rawlings (Wayne) Belinda Giblin (Alison) and Pat McDonald (Fiona) are the only people in the episodes from 1986 being shown at the moment who I genuinely believe are the characters they play. Brian Blain was good but not particularly easy to believe sometimes, his height seems to work against him! Oriana Panozzo seems very believable too. The British actors who have appeared on the show have all impressed me, Cornelia Frances, Abigail stand out most. |

Watched the big wedding episodes yesterday, absolutely hilarious. I almost believed David as his character until he called Wayne a mongrel and said "OK! OK!" in the weirdest mockney style accent I've ever heard.
Charlie did look werid though................. |

Cornelia's great isn't she? Sadly her autobiography doesn't go into great detail about her sacking from S&D. A sign of her professionalism perhaps. |

I wouldn't say she is great and I also don't think S&D is/was something to shout about for the actors who went on to other shows or better things in theatre acting - Giblin for example. I understand the money was relatively good for that time though......
This as opposed to the multitude of actors who disappeared into thin air! I wonder what Normie Rowe is doing right now or the guy who played Andy, come to think of it what happened to the guy who played Glen, the woman who played Janice, the guy who played Craig, the gal who played Debbie. Frances can act thats for sure but her talents were wasted in reasonably disregarded melodramas like The Young Doctors and S&D....... |
