May Jailer (AKA Lana Del Rey) - Sirens (Unreleased Album)
Before her yet to be reissued Lizzy Grant album, Lana went under the name of another alter-ego named May Jailer. She recorded an acoustic type album named Sirens. It has recently come on to the net.

Yet another Lana surprise, lol! I believe she recorded this album at the tender age of 17. Definite Joni/Jewell vibes here.
PS As per rbautz's post above: Children of the Bad Revolution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB8xP83VJM4 Paris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z_WVDmrJZs This woman must have written literally hundreds of great songs in the last few years. Imo the most interesting artist out there right now. |

Thanks for posting this, really nice find. Some of these songs were already floating about on you-tube, etc, but its nice to hear them back to back as intended on the album and even more nice to hear ones I hadn‘t heard before.
You know people who think Lana is manufactured/a “Paris Hilton fake”/a model masquerading as a singer / or whatever other trite insult they can think of, should listen to this. I’m sure they’ll think of some other insult to throw at her, but it’s a totally, utterly, mouth wateringly beautiful selection of songs. I believe she’s actually playing the guitar on these tracks as well. Not bad is she? Doesn’t apparently rate herself on the instrument, hence why she doesn’t do it these days. But I think she can finger pick better than a lot of Indie band guitarists could manage. That’s how she started out, going to New York clubs with her guitar singing folky tunes like these. She’s actually got a clutch of very hardcore fans from those days that think she’s sold out (groans) cause she went all electro hip hop beats later. Personally, I just like how she’s augmented the two styles together- if you put this “pure” singing her heart out style music with the hip hop beats you get what she is now. These days yes she does work with top songwriters and producers-but I think the emphasis should be on works “WITH.” She’s not a X-factor muppet. Its that hip hop style of doing things, work as mini collectives, brain storm ideas together quickly so you can write an album quickly, rather than sit around in your bedroom with a guitar waiting for inspiration to hit you. Suppose you could say its like how Brit comedy shows are usually written by one writer and American ones are collectives, both systems have their merits and give different results. I don’t think any less of Lana for working like that, if it gets a great end product so what? It annoys me how there are people who bad mouth her for that and well all the other crap they talk about her in general. So yeah, all in all more brilliant Lana Del Rey stuff. Great isn’t she? |

Agreed about people not understanding her cnbcwatcher. I dunno maybe she should take it all as a backhanded compliment that people think she is too pretty of whatever to be making the sort of music she does and has no right to be as good as she is at doing it. Which she so obviously is.
Hope she re-releases all her prior albums at some stage and I just hope she keeps making great music like this for years to come. |

I love how versatile she is proving and what an enormous talent she was back at the age of 17.

Said it before and I'll say it again - a major talent!
She just seems capable of writing superb songs almost at will.
