Hi Guys,

I have a 50 inch plasma LG television, I was going to change it for an internet ready one but a friend told me I can get a wireless media box that will turn my LG into an internet connected TV, can anyone advise me on which box is the best?

Yes and No. Depends on what you want to do.

You can probably get an Apple TV or WD Live box which will allow you to access paid-for services such as Netflix or Lovefilm.

The boxes will also allow you to stream content from your networked PCs and some even will allow you to watch movies off an external Harddrive.

It all depends on what you want to do with a "Smart TV"

What's best all depends on user preference.
There are many Internet devices available that all have different apps and streaming services.
What sort of device are you looking at getting as there are a few different types that will provide certain services ie internet media box, blu ray player, games console etc.
Perhaps if you say what services you would like it to provide then that will also help.

Lg are updating their own Smart TV adaptor this week, not sure what apps will be available. On the old version Netfix was available in the States dont think it was in UK.

Should simplink with your TV.

Edit
did not notice this line in the spiel for the new version "thousands of movies and catch-up services from the likes of BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm"

In general if you are happy with a TV picture and sound then don't spend lots of £££ on the internet facilities - buy a separate box for that. WD and apple TV get good reviews and if you're up for it the apple can be hacked to do more.

Also, consider if your Blu-Ray player needs replacing, thats much cheaper than replacing the TV and for under £100 even there are all manner of internet enabled facilities on Blu-Ray players now.

The types of internet facilities will change over the next few years and you're better off changing an external player every 18 months to 2 years than your TV.

Only the now obsolete version 2.

The current version of Apple TV (3rd generation, 2012) has not yet been Jailbroken, and is apparently a lot harder to JB than the iPad and iPhone.
