Red button not working properly for me, picture but no sound on the other channels. (Sony KDL EX 403). I get an error message 'Selected service is scrambled or cannot be decoded'.

I'm also not hearing sound if I view HD channels via new red button facility on BBC HD channels. All Ok though if I stick to SD channels. Anyone else suffering this way?

My TV is a Sony KDL-32EX724.

Go direct to channel 301 its standard definition, then click up two channels to 301 HD then you get sound.

TVonics DTR-HD500. No sound, also black screen, when trying to use BBC Olympic Red Button. Input channel numbers directly and all is ok.

My dad just called me and said the same thing was happening through his Virgin box so it's not just free view.

Well it all works perfectly on my cheapo Technika STBHDIS2010.

Thanks tom558 but I already knew that. It's via the red button that the problem happens.

I've now submitted a complaint to the BBC (what a palaver that is!), so will post if I ever get a reply.

Did wonder if posts on this issue should have their own thread, instead of the positive sounding one that we're actually in?

I have a Bravia EX503. Getting the same problem. If you go directly to the HD channel (e.g 304, rather than via the red button) it works fine. It's only when you cycle thorough the availiable HD channels via the red button that you get the problem.

My DigitalStream PVR works fine with the HD red button service, so it looks like Sony have balls up again as usual and they are unlikely to fix older models with a firmware update... but I've emailed them anyway.

Here below is an example of the error on my Bravia EX503 HD stream earlier (also emailed with my complaint to Sony):

Thanks Colino Green. WRT to my earlier post, I get that scrambled and not decoding message too. Depressed if this is going to be the future for red button when Freeview becomes more an HD platform.

BTW, your comment about Sony not fixing firmware on older models, concerns me. If the BBC don't fix this then I'll be livid, because I bought my Bravia TV from a Sony Centre less than a year ago when it was a current model, and I paid top dollar too !

Would it be possible for this board's moderators to extract todays messages from this thread into a new thread with a more appropriate title ? Thanks.

Clearly a box/tv specific problem. The HD red button should bring up a yellow under-banner to scroll beteween the HD channels

Thanks lbear but my Sony Bravia KDL-32EX724 TV does show the yellow panel at base of screen, and even allows me to navigate to other channels using it.

However, if I start on a BBC HD channel, press the red button and see the yellow panel, once I select a different BBC HD channel there's no sound. If I then use the yellow panel to go back to the original BBC HD channel the sound returns. No problem on BBC SD channels, so why is HD different?

I'm still hoping that the BBC can correct this, like they did a while back on another issue that effected loads of kit.

Can someone please tell me how the BBC suddenly found space for these HD channels?

There's only one extra HD channel on Freeview, which is an HD simulcast of 301 (red button). It's the fifth HD stream on the HD mux, which has been planned for years. It was meant to go to Channel 5 (twice) but they chickened out.

As I said in my original post, my Digitalstream HD PVR works perfectly with the HD channel red button service, so it is almost certainly a Sony BRAVIA problem.

Like you say, if you bought your model of TV less than a year ago (mine is just over two years old) then you should expect Sony to fix it. Unfortunately my model doesn't work with any of the Internet TV channels on Freeview and I read over on AVforums that Sony were not going to update 2010 models to work with Freeview internet tv which is why I am not holding out much hope that they will update the firmware to fix this problem either.

My next TV will not be a Sony model. That fact is entirely Sony's fault. I am sure a lot of Sony TV owners will feel the same way when it comes to their next TV purchase.

Does the red button prompt really need to be permanently burned in to the top-right corner of my screen, even during non-Olympics programming? I know I can get rid of it with Green but there is no need for it to be a permanent fixture.

Would be nice if they'd added a mini-BBCi - sorry, BBC Red Button - service at the same time. I realise there isn't the capacity for the full thing, but something akin to what is on the radio stations would have been useful.

Ignore this, my dad had somehow managed to mute his V box even though the remote is set to control the tv volume .

I tried rescanning the channels but no luck, seems this is definitely a Sony Bravia issue then from the posts after mine.

A while back I had a problem with the sound dropping temporarily on HD when the resolution changed from 1080i to p and back on my Sony KDL32EX403
This was solved when you changed the Display Area to Full Pixel on HD channels (Settings>Display>Screen).

No it was fixed by Sony updating their firmware, eventually.

You are thinking of the picture zooming in and out between p and i when only one was set to full pixel.

Why is happening in Wales with respect to the closure of S4CHD & the 5th HD station leaving us with only 3 HD stations, the rest of the UK have 4

BBC One HD,
BBC HD,
ITV1 HD (Eng & Wal only),

Channel 4HD (all of UK except Wales),

STVHD in Scotland & UTVHD in Northern Ireland

What is the blueprint for the future?

Nothing officially announced, but I'll be very surprised if C4HD doesn't launch. This isn't based on anything, I'd just really expect that.

Also, the 3D programming on BBC HD is now missing the 2D/3D switch option.

Apparently the BBC are doing a 2-year trial of 3D (on all platforms), I'm not sure how they are going to manage that when BBC HD closes.

No...? I was referring to in Wales after S4C Clirlun (ugh, I hate that name because it can't easily be abbreviated) closes.

They only seem to put the 3D/2D switch on when it is not a "simulcast" (not really a simulcast as 3D is usually a different video choice and commentary when 'live').
