Quality of DVD Players
Is there any real difference in the quality of the picture and sound from say a £150 Sony DVD player and a £500 Denon DVD player (both non recordable)? I kind of suspect there is almost no difference. Is there a noticeable difference?
Thanks for any help. |

Hook them up to a £200 supermarket CRT then no there won't be
![]() Hook them up to a high end CRT, LCD or Plasma and you will see the benefits of higher quality components and build quality. Now if that is worth X amount more is a question only the individual can decide

i agree with the above review. if you compare a £40 dvd player with a £140 one you will notice a much bigger difference than comparing a £140 one to a £400 dvd player.

Generally you will find that the picture is clearer, sharper, and that the black colours especially are more defined. But as it was stated above your picture is only as good as the weakest link in your system.

I recently purchased the Philips DVP720SA for £110 on amazon (£90 on pixelmania) and the quality on my 42" is now excellent. What you need to look out for is a good video d/a converting of 12bit/108mhz and make sure it has component video output (for progressive scanning if you have suitable tv) or scart with RGB and you have got a good quality DVD player.
