I illegally downloaded music until 2009, when I purchased Mariah Carey - I Stay In Love after listening to it on YouTube.

First album I remember buying was Alvin Stardust. First single-there were several I got or was given around the same time so can't really say which was 'first',it could be the Bay City Rollers Give A Little Love or the 1975 reissue of Space Oddity.

We've a copy of that somewhere. I don't know when mum and dad bought it but it was before I was born. I never listened to it though.

You must be very young as it seems you only experienced music during the digital era. You are lucky!

The first CD I can remember actually choosing to get was probably Steps. :\ I know we had Robson & Jerome, Spice Girls, Now 42, Take That (tape) etc before that, but I don't think we actually chose those.

The first CD I remember actually saving up to get was Westlife's World Of Our Own, and I still love them 11 years after that. The first singles I remember buying were Will Young's Evergreen and Gareth Gates' Unchained Melody!

My sister bought that, it was the first album I ever probably listened to. I pretty much had no option but to like her musical tastes. Then Jason Donvan, then Chesney Hawkes, then Mariah Carey.

My first purchase, that I remember, was Eternal - Always and Forever on cassette, 1993.

I used to get records bought for me because I was never really interested in music for some reason. The first single I bought myself was (if i remember correctly) Baby One More Time. There is a possibility it could have been Boyzones Comic Relief single though.

My first album was Madonnas 'American Life'. It's still a favourite of mine.
