Flea treatments

I've been looking around for an alternative to frontline or similar, as my cat seems incredibly irritated by it on the back of his neck and cannot stop scratching at it, and trying to lick it off. I'm not keen on collars, so feel tablets would be best. Has anyone any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

The only treatments I can think of are Program and Capstar - i'm not certain on this so don't take it for read, but I think flea tablets kill the existing fleas but don't give the lasting protection that Advocate and Frontline do and won't treat parasite infections either, so you could find yourself giving the treatment regularly. Program may be more suitable if there is no current flea infestation (it doesn't kill adult fleas and gives a level of protection but not as good as the pipette treatments) Perhaps give your vet a ring and see what they advise?

We have always used Frontline which is effective BUT expensive . Just looking into cheaper option that's just come onto the market . Same chemicals but much cheaper .....

the bob martin one with fipronil?

saw an advert for it last night, going to look into it for the dog & adopted mog.

we've used bob martin for years, the Dual action one. (same chemicals as Advantage, if i remember correctly) which has done a grand job

I gave this to my cat and my cat became really ill, was withdrawn, couldn't move after a while, glazed eyes and was frothing at the mouth. I took her to the vets and my vet said that she had toxic poisoning from the Bob Martin flea treatment, the vet said that they use alcohol in the product and this made her really ill.

The vet also said that Bob Martin only treats the fleas on the animal at the time, it kills them but it doesn't prevent future fleas.
I would never use another Bob Martin Flea Product again, the vet advised me not to use it aswell.

Na , the one I've seen is nothing to do with Bob Martin , it's an online product , same ingredients as Frontline ....

Dont bother with anything to do with Bob Martin products , honestly they are useless , il'd go as far to say they are fraudulent goods , they done absolutly nothing for my cat and friends ive spoken to have said similar.

I got some fipronil flea treatments from the internet, they have worked as well as frontline and have been much cheaper. The cats have been fine.

The best advice on fleas and flea control I know comes from the FAB:
