Apart from the odd pasta sauce, I don't eat much of the miracle food. Rather than take tablets (I much prefer natural methods), what are the best ways to get garlic into your diet?

I have a salad at brunch, can I add garlic to a salad?

You can put garlic in anything that is a sauce or casserole type thing. Anything that you start by frying onion can also take garlic.

Even things like garlic mash. Garlic goes in anything really, but i wouldn't eat it raw in things like a salad.

You could roast it off in the oven with other veg and make a warm salad or caramelise if and add it to dressings, but having it raw would not be pleasant as its a very strong taste.

Cut the top off a bulb so that you can see the flesh of each clove then drizzle a bit of olive oil over it, wrap in foil and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. When it comes out the flesh will be soft and spreadable and will taste less harsh and a bit sweeter than raw garlic. Like this it's lovely in mash, mixed with mayo or even spread on toast.
For a salad, how about putting some in a dressing or making garlic croutons.

You can put a bit of raw garlic in a salad..........I usually have olive oil as my dressing so put olive oil in your mixing bowl and chop some garlic into it, but not much as it would overpower all the other flavours.........I'd say maybe a quarter of a clove finely chopped would be ok

Garlic bread is excellent and you can use up any bread that's going a bit stale - put as much garlic as you want in that !

Agree with all of the above. You can put it in most sauces.
Stir frys start off with ginger garlic and chilli
Pasta and casserole sauces start off with onions and garlic.

A nice oil to make is to gently heat olive oil with garlic and basil.
Once the garlic is soft you can remove it and use it in sauces or make garlic bread.

Garlic butter/oil for bread

You can rub a raw garlic on a toasted bread. And most of my recipes contain somewhere 'add chopped onion and crushed garlic, a lot'. You can make roasted potatoes. Potatoes sliced as chips, oil, chopped onion, bacon cubed, black pepper, cumin, and, wait for it, garlic.

Also tomorrow I am going to try the curry they showed today on Saturday Kitchen. Lots and lots of garlic

I'm not sure what you think you are getting from garlic that isn't counteracted by the oil.

You could make chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. That'll get garlic into your diet!

I put garlic in almost everything. Depends if you cook from scratch most nights I suppose. It's going to be more difficult to include fresh garlic in your diet, if you pick up premade sauces / meals etc

That being said, olives stuffed with a whole garlic clove are lovelllly and good for a snack.

I bought some beautiful smoked garlic in Morrisons yesterday, I'm going to makes some sauces for pasta with it and a butterbean stew. Yummy. I adore garlic but hate to smell the stale odour on anyone, myself included.

As said above, baking it and using the sweet pulp is beautiful.

Making chicken with 40 cloves isn't as bad as you think as you don't peel the cloves, so it just perfumes the chicken so-to-speak.

Wow earsnot, I'm going to try that recipe! For a treat, as I can't afford the calories of the oil too much, but a great one I know my in laws would love - but won't be seeing them until December so I'll try it once before!

The best ways to soften the power of garlic, I'd say, are roasting (which tastes divine) and boiling. Garlic makes an excellent soup and you can throw quite a few (chopped) cloves in other soups to add a little depth.

Most other things have been covered. Curries of course can take loads of garlic, pesto...a raw clove or two in salad dressing....
