Can't stand the man personally but congrats all the same.

The decision was clearly made weeks before he was always Lord Sugar's favourite.

I thought either Ricky or Nick would have won. Nick didn't articulate his plan well enough at the end and got caught out when it came down to figures..margins etc.

Both Ricky and Tom sold themselves best at the end, but LS obviously decided not to take a gamble on Tom's business plan.

Anyway, I'm quite happy it was Ricky. He shone this past couple of weeks imo.

Nick had the best idea but over complicated it with the recipe part. Jade's idea was good but lacking in detail and was targeting people who would be most vulnerable to cold calling.

Tom's idea was too risky in the present economic climate. Ricky's idea was unexciting but really if he's managed to employ and recruit hundreds of people in that field why does he need Lord Sugar?

The final and the series looks like a bit of a set up really in terms of going through the motions with all the other candidates and the final four.

I think they knew from week one that Ricky's experience and contacts would mean that he would win regardless of what happened.

Ricky just talks in cliches. He couldn't even stop himself in the boardroom.

To be honest with you, I thought that Tom had it in the bag from the beginning. Ricky didn't even register on my radar the first few weeks. Whereas Tom seemed to be favoured pretty much all through (along with Adam). Jade was doing well the past couple of weeks too, however her business plan and CV was pretty shocking and let her down at the last hurdle.

LS did say at the end that he wasn't ready to be the gambling man and went for the straightforward business plan, but I'm not sure I agree that it was obvious from the beginning.

I also think that Ricky wants his own organisation and to be the one at the helm as opposed to working for other successful organisations. At least that was the impression I got and also why he's looking for LS to back his business plan.....i.e. so he can set up on his own.

He didn't want anything to do with cold calling scum. I'm registered with the TPS but as my house insurance is due I've had around 10 to 20 colds calls a day recently - all answered by the answerphone. My policy is to never buy from cold callers, either on the doorstep or by phone.

Some large "fine wine investment companies" have gone to the wall in the past few months. It appears that in times of recession they cannot find enough new people to pay a couple of hundred quid for a 5 quid bottle of plonk Most of the money invested appears to go in commission. The companies that have gone bust also seem to have marketed their product mainly on a cold call basis based on "leads" provided by a third party.

Find a recipe on the web, pay a couple of quid for the ingredients, another fiver to the web supply company and another fiver for delivery. Having food delivered by a main supermarket is possibly only financially viable for the majority if it includes the shopping for the whole week.

Playing safe is possibly also the most ethical way out.

Changed my mind completely and ended up really liking him. The Final Five showed him up well and I think he's had it tough. Lovely relationship with His mum. Pleased.

Nick's idea reminded me of when you read the handbook for something. You get terribly impressed with what the thing can do and then you suddenly ask yourself WHY.

Well summed up. I think this where LS's head was at

I agree. I really only noticed him this past week or so and thought he came into his own.

Many congratulations to Ricky - IMO, well deserved.

The dynamics have changed. LS no longer wants an employee.

Tom was in business with his father & Lord Sugar could not be associated with Jade's, 'cold calling' on the vulnerable.

haha....good analogy

I felt a bit sorry for him to be honest. He clearly hadn't sat down and thought out any difficult questions that might be fired at him.........like "why would we want to go to all this bother in the first place?"

Had he been able to give a brilliant answer to that one, then I think he'd have been in with a very good chance.

wanted jade to win but when heard her idea was a call centre then that put me off, ricky was my second favourite so happy he won.

he seemed to improve throughout the process and was a worthy winner.

First year ever there's not been a person in the final I was dead against winning, would've preferred Tom who seemed to have the best business brain out of the lot of them (Frustratingly sometimes even losing tasks after thinking too business minded and not enough flash for the TV show element, or short term because the tasks were only one day businesses with no need to actually build relationships) but can understand LS being wary of a hedge fund.

I thought Tom had the best plan, not sure what was confusing LS, I saw on another show this week that £1 out of every £7 spent in retail in Britain is spent in Tesco (so assuming all supermarkets were involved the potential market is HUGE) and if there's a way of simplifying and speeding up purchases surely consumers and the supermarkets would be very interested? Seemed like a good idea to me, plug in to a browser and simple to use?

I think the recipe idea is great. I often follow online recipes and there is often an option to print the ingredients/shopping list out. If I was doing a Christmas menu
or dinner party where I need a lot of ingredients that I might not normaly have in my cupboards, then this would be brilliant for me.
I would imagine that the fees come in like confused.com or comparethemarket.com in that they get a referral fee for every purchase. Nick did stress they would be linked to all major retailers so you would be able to see the cheapest price just by clicking a mouse

I think the whole problem with Nick's business plan was that he didn't articulate it enough in a non-IT way and therefore didn't show where it could work either in a need, or a want, that the public would be interested in.

He also failed to simply explain any breakdown of figures and margins. It was his lack of articulation.........and more, his seeminglylack of passion at the end that let him down. It was almost like he was nodding in agreement with his detractors. Where was his fight for survival?

Happy that Ricky won. He seemed to be very loud and full of it at the beginning but he's mellowed and seems to be quite a down to earth guy who realised he didn't need all the showmanship.

Probably wouldn't have been hired as an actual apprentice (I believe that would have been Tom), but seemed to have a good plan by all accounts.

Well it is much better than a recruitment agent! Even in a niche area (which is alread well catered for). Also he won't be allowed to approach his former clients as recruitment agencies tend to protect themselves very well against former employees starting rival businesses.

Since when did Nick have the best idea? Everyone seemed to conclude that they did not think he had a market for the idea, and that there was too much work involved in the software,

Tom's idea was to risky because the level of investment he wanted was to high, even scaled down. Everyone seemed to be in agreement his idea and plan was excellent.

Ricky, similarly, had a clear idea and a plan which looked likely to work without the same level of risk(or return for that matter),

On past series, especially series 6 when calculated risk an creativity were always preached, Tom as the calculated risk taker would have won but this time LS has gone with the safe option.
