That old chestnut.

I'm not really a fan of theirs, but I'd go for Rammstein.

Or maybe the Chemical Brothers

Let's not revisit that 'messiah' nonsense again.
And don't judge them on Glastonbury.
A cursory listen to 'Under a Blood Red Sky', 'Joshua Tree', 'Achtung Baby' , 'All that you can't Leave... and a cursory glance at the Rosebowl gig on YouTube might confuse you a little less.

Beyonce by a clear mile closely followed by Pink even though I'm not a huge fan.

Going by who i have seen or what i have seen based clips

Madonna
Kylie
Gaga
Celine Dion

The top performers of today. Unlike Mariah and Whitney, Celine makes the stage her own. She doesn;t just stand there and belt out her tunes, she connects with the audience, has themes, even dances and just really owns the stage. Something i feel Mariah fails to do and what Whitney failed to do when she was alive. I am not disrespecting Mariah or Whitney at all, but not everyone is blessed with being an amazing performer but i feel Celine blows them out of the water judging by every tour I have of Celine's, Whitney and Mariah's.

I saw them at Glastonbury not a huge fan love the earlier material not so keen on the new stuff. I was at the front at Glastonbury and all the turning his back is utter tripe. Vocally really good. Way better than the awful Beyonce that was was truly the worst performance.

Fantasia is a beast live, she's a current performer but with an old school vibe but man can she blow !!

I've seen U2 about twenty times and not once did I feel slighted because Bono had his back to me In fact, I didn't care what Bono did as long as U2 cranked out the songs from their 30+ career.Still the greatest live band I've ever seen.

'Where the Streets Have No Name' has the best intro of any live song--to be part of 90,000 people going crazy when the stage lights turn red is an incredible experience

I've also seen Led Zeppelin, Springsteen, INXS, The Eagles & many more.

If everything else goes wrong, they can always fall back on 'Streets'. You could probably add 'Beautiful Day' or 'Vertigo' to that now!

Think it was Bono who said that once... something along the lines of when something is not right, they can play WTSHNN and everything starts to roll smoothly again.

The rattle and hum tour was probably their best.

I couldn't find the quote but yes.
I have to say the 360 Degrees tour is as good as any!

I would say Celine Dion. She owns any stage she performs on, and doesnt need a big elaborate show to entertain.

Cyndi Lauper owns her stage, EVERYTIME. Incredible vocals, band and the best interaction with the audience I have ever known.

I'm yet to see Madonna (no really July hurry up) but from what I have saw of her over the years she has to be up there. Incredible show woman.

Madonna still has it....looking at footage from her concerts on the MDNA tour thus far she really is proving why she is TOP! Very inspiring.

Again as many said Coldplay i can give or take some of their music but when they are live they make it all literally spring to life!

Similar with U2 from what i have seen over the years! Some of their music is ok - good but live again, it shapes its own identity.

grace jones, her concerts really do make her music three dimensional, and being 64 she has perfected her craft and remains timeless...fantastic!

Beyonce surprised me recently....was never a fan Pre-4/glasto....but damn she owned that stage and actually made me fall in love with some rpevious hits!

Janelle Monae...she is INSANE love her ArchAndroid album...but again her stage presence, style, band, concepts are so absurd it works....phenomenal lady!

Bjork, yes musically she may not appeal to wide range mainstream music as some here i have mentioned....but her presence, concepts, styles and vocal is just so absurdly beautiful from what i have seen of her on videos etc from live performances...and she still generates that chilling buzz...love it.

For me those are those top performers and live acts in the world still today that i really know can really push the limits and make it work and have the crowds eat out of their palms!

I used to think it was Bruce Springsteen or Coldplay before i saw Grace Jones and her hula hoop last night.

She has set the standard now and others have to raise their game to equal it. Bruce will have to come out and sing "Born to Run" bouncing on a space hopper and Chris Martin should sing "Yellow" while on a pogo stick

prince by a mile

over 32 years of live shows, he's never went a year since 1980 without playing multiple live shows. he plays everything from fields to stadiums, arenas, theatres and clubs. gigs of well in excess of 3 hours, and then afterwards a second aftershow informal gig of up to 3 hours. all live, no backing tracks. he's broke records for most profitable tour with a US only tour compared to world tours by other artists, and has the current unbeaten record for playing 21 nights at the o2, beaten previous record holder billy joels 12 nights at madison square gardens considerably, and most of those nights he played a second club gig at the indigo2

all you have to do is start typing "greatest gu..." in youtube to find the reason why

you can see prince twice in a night or many times over a week and see a different set each time. he regularly plays 2 shows a night, sometimes 3. he will play to tens of thousands in a large venue, then play to dozens of people in a club afterwards. no other artist does anything like that

and he is still performing to this day, with his last gigs less than a week ago, and more on the way
