Hi guys, hoping I can get some buyer advice to augment reading some reviews around the web.
I've been wanting a new TV but it seems to be a lot more difficult than I thought, mainly for the simple reason in that I won't really know how it will look until I receive it.

My current TV is a Toshiba 37XV505D, a 1080p LCD circa 2008. The picture quality is fine, but I would like something a little bigger, around 47" or so, and possibly with 3D capabilities now that the price gap is beginning to close between 3D and 2D sets (passive 3D preferably).

My old set had a matte finish to the display itself, so there were no reflection issues. Something I am really not prepared to risk is opting for a gloss screen, which it seems most TV's nowadays are. Has anyone had an issue with these? It seems like it could be quite bothersome!

Lastly, I am looking to spend around £800.
As a last note, sound quality and "Smart TV" features are not going to be of any concern, but low input lag for gaming is an absolute must!

Any advice would be very much appreciated .

I am also in the market for a new tv. I did intend on buying an internet ready model but, after reading a DS member's post, I may just opt for a smart tv which, with your requirements, is what I would opt for.

As far as I can remember, I've only owned glass screen TVs. I've never had a matte screen. It didn't cause any trouble tho. And as for your TV, if you prefer passive 3D TVs, take a look at LG's models. They have the best passive 3D TVs IMO.

First thing to think about is how much your willing to spend (but be prepared to spend a little more if need be).

a Smart TV IS internet ready and apps can be downloaded but differ from manufacturer to manufacturer as far as I know. Another thing to think about is screen size. I used to own a Sony 46" 1080P LCD and wanted a bigger screen so went for a 55" and it's not that much bigger than the 46" I had and a great deal thinner.

3D: if your planning on family and friends get together's to watch movies and/or sport then think about a Passive 3D set. These come with up to 7 pairs of glasses but the picture (according to some) isn't as good as Active 3D. Choosing Active 3D has it's draw backs with the main one being the cost of extra glasses (around £30-£40+ per pair) depending on manufacturer.

Also consider which panel type you want. Plasma or LED/LCD. Panasonic for Plasma and Sony for LED/LCD but these can be expensive (but you get what you pay for)
cheaper alternatives are Samsung or LG.

If you do go for a 3D set then don't make the mistake of thinking things jump out of the screen at you. It's more a depth thing but the experience (for some) is breath taking and the picture quality is stunning (depending on the content being watched).

If you are looking for passive 3D TVs then LG and Vizio are the leading passive 3D TV makers. If you have problem with light reflection then I recommend getting a matte screen TV. LG’s last year models have matte screen. You can have a look at LW980T or any model that starts with LW.

I’ve come across a couple of reviews on cinema 3d smart TVs (42inch, 47inch, 55inch) and they all sound good. I especially liked the ones that talked about LG passive cinema 3d smart tv as having the best 3d experience. Perhaps you may want to check it out here: http://www.gizmovizion.com/2012/07/l...-tv-earns.html

louise1966, you got two options to choose from. Either passive 3d smart tv or active 3d smart tv. Both looks fine in performance but with some constrains. Active 3d smart tv has nice colour and good quality picture but it’s expensive and uses active glasses with heavy battery. And sometimes you may experience flickering when the battery power is low. Passive 3d smart tv also has good quality pictures, colour accuracy but it's cheapers and doesn't use battery which is why I prefer passive over active. Just my opinion.

Talking about LG and Vizio passive 3d tv, in my opinion, I think LG is better based on the experience I had three weeks ago when I purchased a LG 3DTV. We were able to save good sum of money and in addition we were given six pairs of passive 3d glasses which was nice since my friends come over a lot. 3d experience was also amazing.

6 pairs? This is what I like about passive 3D glasses. They come with like 4~6 glasses and each additional pair costs like 5 pounds. More importantly guests can bring their glasses and just join us to enjoy 3D experience.
