Great thread.

Another vote for either Brownlee in the men's triathlon.

I think a bloke called coe is going to get an awful lot of gold from the games.

In my opinion.

Here are the medal targets set by UK Sport for each discipline

This is what future lottery funding will be based upon.

The Times do a daily virtual medal table. Currently it shows us predicting 19 gold medals ( building in a 20% home advantage weighting on performances)

Another vote here for a surefire British gold in the mens' triathlon. Even if one Brownlee brother has a disaster, the other is sure to win! With any luck it should be gold and silver.

Really rooting for Ben Ainslie in the sailing since we both grew up in the same place in Cornwall, where he is a local hero.

I'd love Robbie Grabarz to get gold in the high jump. He'd need a lot of luck to do that, but I think he is definitely going to get a medal of some colour.

Laura Trott in the Omnium.

I have a big price voucher on her to win SPOTY, hopefully she will be the only Brit to win 2 Golds. (She is also in the team pursuit squad.)

If Brad Wiggins wins the Tour you're scuppered on that wager but nice thinking.

I feared the same last week with AM in the tennis!

If Brad wind TDF and Cav wins Olympic RR, could Laura till be in with a shot with two golds?

I think somebody like Jess Enis or Mo Farah would get more votes if they win gold (more wel known etc)

Anyway be nice to have so many options again to pick from in that contest.

As for a certain gold - One of the Brownless brothers (be our first ever medal in the event as well!) and Becky Adlington in the 800m.

Least the Aussies won't be able to bleat on about us only winning medals when "sitting down"

One to watch in the Fencing for GB is Richard Kruse. In the last two Olympics he made the top 8 and top 16.

Tipped to go even better this time in the Foil.

I wonder if Ben Ainsle can repeat his wonderful performences again, and take home another gold medal? I sure hope so, then, he must become a Knight of the Relm surley?

I makes me feel quite old that I can clearly remember him winning a silver medal when he was still a teenager....

Would happily put my mortgage on the womens pursuit team and Becky Adlington winning the 800 freestyle, can't see either of them getting beat

Quite true.

BTW Ben Ben Ainslie did win a silver medal in 1996 in the Laser Class so you are right Muttley.

Yes. He lost to that unfortunate sounding Brazilian, Robert Scheidt

But he did get his revenge four years later. It's hard to see Ben Ainslie losing at Weymouth. The only man who seems to be capable of defeating him is also British, Gilles Scott and he hasn't been able to qualify for the Games because of the one sailor per nation rule
