Diana's death would be a greater example of big schedule changes - BBC1 was essentially news from the studio by Martyn Lewis or Peter Sissons for a large part of the day, carrying on from BBC World throughout the night, while BBC2 went to Grandstand at 3pm, and ITV showed Corrie and Heartbeat as normal, both of which got over 14m IIRC. And for the funeral, Casualty was cancelled until the following Friday with Free Willy in its place, I believe; it was meant to be shown on Sunday but Mother Teresa died. And F1 Qualifying on ITV from Monza was not shown live, but delayed in almost highlights form.

Good job I checked my Radio Times. I forgot that War Hero In My Family has moved to 7pm tonight. And after that it's the best reality show on television - Springwatch on BBC2.

There's one thing for me to like Big Brother for - no clash between the two programmes I want to watch tonight.

Just saw an ad for The Bachelor on Channel 5, some guy in a suit running through the woods from something.

And a new one for Kitchen Wars. None for BB though , since there are no billboards and there's very little advertising on other channels, they should be airing the full one every ad break.

Indeed, but the amazing thing to me was that it was even shown at all, after that brilliant piece in Media Guardian in about 1995 which suggested we'd have nine days of nothing but ballet from companies she was patron of and marching bands from regiments she was commander-in-chief of, and on all channels. The coverage was really slimmed down over the years, had she died ten years earlier it would have been very different. Diana was different because it wasn't just who she was but how she died.

The pointless Beeb-bashing this weekend reminded me of when they elected not to show the awful Queen Mother birthday pageant in 2000, and ITV showed it, and everyone moaned the Beeb thought Neighbours was more important, when in fact they showed every other bit of Queen Mum-related flannel that year, including all the tedious stuff nobody else would touch with a bargepole, which nobody mentioned and lavished praise on ITV for showing one thing.

You're clearly not in their target demographic so why do you care? ITV2 were hardly going to be covering the jubilee were they?

Schedule change - One Show begins at 18:05, Queen message at 18:00.

Currently, she is. Obviously not of all time. But she's miles ahead of where Duffy or Leona were a few years ago. As I said, she wouldn't be right to close the show. But there are other options other than McCartney every single time. And Adele would have been preferable to JLS or Jessie J or Will.i.am who seems to be the music version of John Terry - first with the Olympic Torch and now aimlessly wandering around on stage at the jubilee! How does he keep appearing in the most random places?!

Massive ratings for the concert. It exceeded my expectations by around 2.5m. And that peak of 17.1m . Easily the most watched show of the year so far and I wouldn't be surprised if it stays there. Corrie did as well as could be expected in those circumstances. A shame it was so low as it was great last night. And that's 5 poor Corrie ratings in a row now. Hopefully things can recover tomorrow and Thursday. All the soaps are going to be for a rough ride over the Summer though, as the schedules will be changing each week for them.

I can't believe they wouldn't have asked Adele to perform, it seems more likely it was her decision not to. I imagine with the hectic year she had she'll be keeping a low profile for a while.

Big Brother is getting advertised before most programmes via the dedicated ident. News is an exception where more serious idents are used.

The Bachelor ad looked nice, the creative team working their magic again. Glad they got that out in time for the BB launch.

Will.i.am seems to be on a mission to become an adopted Brit. He's spent the last week thanking the UK for 'giving him his career' - I agree he does seem to be popping up all over the place at the minute.

Some simply staggering ratings over recent days whilst I have been away. I can't believe that 17m watched the climax of the concert having predicted all year that it couldn't possibly match 2002 - it blitzed it! Imagine if there hadn't been a double Corrie, nice weather and millions on holiday!

And I'm blown away by the pageant ratings, not just the 12m peak but the fact it averaged 11m over 4 hours - astonishing.

As the weather seems to have turned again today, one wonders what today's spectacular scenes in the Mall achieved! At least I'll be around at 9.40 tomorrow...

On that note, I see BBC1 ran through all afternoon instead of breaking for the concert rerun with closing credits for the whole package; not sure of the ratings reporting implications?


It's been Tuesday every day for ITV1 lately!

You must be so glad the extravaganza is nearly over...

Glad to see ITV do well out of this. I imagine it's brining in a demo they don't get much of (myself included!). For the two quarters today, could they have used ITV2/3? It's not like they're showing anything that couldn't be ditched (I can understand why they don't want to put on ITV1).

Also, I assume STV don't have the flexibility to show Murray matches that ITV1 don't want to show (eg, taking the ITV4 coverage - I think they've done this for European football in the past)?

when is the BBC inquest - tomorrow at 9am? who is going to be fired for their cack handed coverage?

I am suggesting that channels provide an alternative, but rather like QVC, who know hardly anyone will be watching today, they just flung out the cheapest show they could find. Surprised they didn't up the ante, though, and maybe show the Coronation St tram crash as a special as someone would have watched.

I imagine todays repeat will also do much better than the BBCs usual daytime schedule.


NBC pays the most and they so they get it at a better time for them in the US. 9pm is 4pm and 1am is 8pm Eastern,
Now of course NBC won't be showing it live, it will be on a tape delay, but they will want it as late as possible to stop people looking online for the show. They would like it later again :P
I imagine they will show it US time of 7-11pm.

I think the opeaning ceremony might break the 20 million barrier tbh. The hype is and will be immense.

If these are the rules you might want to do a top 30 as a 2012 one off.

With 3 Jubilee programmes, 3 Olympics, 2 Football, 6 talent/reality shows and 3 soaps, there would only be 3 slots left for anything else (2 of which probably Call the Midwife and Downton)
