Currently, she is. Obviously not of all time. But she's miles ahead of where Duffy or Leona were a few years ago. As I said, she wouldn't be right to close the show. But there are other options other than McCartney every single time. And Adele would have been preferable to JLS or Jessie J or Will.i.am who seems to be the music version of John Terry - first with the Olympic Torch and now aimlessly wandering around on stage at the jubilee! How does he keep appearing in the most random places?!
I was quite surprised Adele wasn't there. I get that she doesn't want to risk overexposure but this was a massive, massive occasion, and exactly the type she should be making appearances at. She shouldn't have closed it though (and nor should she close either of the Olympic ceremonies) as she hasn't been around long enough. I do think McCartney is the best choice as he is about as big as it gets. I can't think of anyone else really who would be more fitting, and several of the other suggestions were there last night anyway.

If you want someone a bit more 'modern' the only people big enough to do it are probably Coldplay, but as was pointed out they were in concert last night. I'm sure they'll be involved with the Olympics though.

Agree about Will.i.am though, quite why he appears to be popping up everywhere is beyond me. Also Danny O'Dnoghue must have been livid as he was the only judge on The Voice not asked to perform! No idea why they asked Jessie J to be there (although maybe I'm a bit biased because I think she's dreadful ) but Tom Jones was brilliant.

Saturday 30th March 2002

BBC1
17:52 NEWS OBITUARY COVERAGE 4.64m
19:45 QUEEN MOTHER TRIBUTE PT1 4.58m
21:01 BBC NEWS 5.51m
21:31 MAN AND BOY 4.75m

BBC2
20:10 CASUALTY 4.66m

ITV1
19:50 STARS IN THEIR EYES 5.24m
20:37 ITV WEEKEND NEWS 3.83m
21:01 DENIS NORDEN'S 7TH LAUGHTER FILE 5.67m
I think 10 years ago people realised the Queen Mother passing away was not a huge surprise at age 101. I hope the current Queen can reach a similar age and possibly reach a Platinum Jubilee celebration.

Amazing rating for the concert.
I imagine todays repeat will also do much better than the BBCs usual daytime schedule.

NBC pays the most and they so they get it at a better time for them in the US. 9pm is 4pm and 1am is 8pm Eastern,
Now of course NBC won't be showing it live, it will be on a tape delay, but they will want it as late as possible to stop people looking online for the show. They would like it later again :P
I imagine they will show it US time of 7-11pm.

I think the opeaning ceremony might break the 20 million barrier tbh. The hype is and will be immense.
This has been the case in previous Olympics, but Lord Coe has said NBC have had zero influence over the London 2012 schedule.

It has been set up so all the big events are in UK primetime.

D.M.N. - you have missed the BBC News last night with 10.9m, certain to feature in the end of year chart.
Woops, forgot about that.

If these are the rules you might want to do a top 30 as a 2012 one off.

With 3 Jubilee programmes, 3 Olympics, 2 Football, 6 talent/reality shows and 3 soaps, there would only be 3 slots left for anything else (2 of which probably Call the Midwife and Downton)
And a very good idea. Definitely worth a top 30 this year, I think.

At the Sydney Olympics NBC tape delayed so much the results were appearing in newspapers in the US before they were shown on NBC !

@NeilyWoodward One Show averaged 4.7m, peak 5.8m for last 15 mins.
Yay - my first reply from someone iimportant on Twitter! (head of BBC London 2012 coverage)

Disappointing for TOS - the first half-hour must have been sub-4m.. No wonder it wasn't tweeted by the PR people.

Roger is great at tweeting ratings and answering questions - he'll be a great source of info for this thread during the Olympics .

Yeah, they're always going to have that bother.

They were better in Beijing - they did cover all the Universal channels with live coverage, but they still withheld all the big events.

I think they would be better just letting it out live. People would still know to tune in during primetime for all the big stuff.

Very disappointing given the fact that it averaged nearly 6million for the episode at the Palace.

Did Adele say that she didn't want to perform for this reason?
How do you know Danny wasn't asked? Maybe he didn't want to.
The line up was ok as it was in my opinion

As I and others have said it's nothing to do with the NBC schedule - it's all about London still being light well past 9pm and these ceremonies generally looking better in the dark.

Moving on and a bit of info on how 4Seven will work:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...seven-catch-up

Basically weeknights at 8pm and 10pm will be dedicated to show getting the buzz from Twitter etc., while 9pm will be the shows from C4 at 9pm the previous night. The weekends will be "multiple repeats" of the best rated shows from the week before.

I'm still not convinced about this concept - for example Homeland has probably been the C4 show with the most buzz this year, but their rights just won't allow for anything more than the one repeat it currently gets on C4 anyway. I just think ultimately it'll morph into some kind of C4+24 - surely the most likely shows to end up at 8pm and 10pm are those from 8pm and 10pm the previous night.

This is a poor concept.

I know Channel 4 put being talked about above everything else, but this idea that playing it by ear with the scheduling based on what Twitter likes beats having full and accurate listings published in newspapers/magazines is ludicrous.

They've overthought it. C4+24 would have been fine. And all I can really see it achieving in the long run is weakening the ratings for the main channel even further.

Anyone estimating how many people will have watched the Jubilee celebrations today? I would estimate in total about 26 million.

The DS subforum is a lot busier and more positive than I was expecting too.

Encouraging signs, but the night is still young.

3 million peak, but I think the series will be around 1.5 million average with a peak of 2 million for eviction nights. Still if it keeps Channel 5's ratings up.
However, BB just isn't a big hitter nowadays regardless of what its disciples think. It's not that much above TOWIE in the ratings and the concept of a stripped reality show going on for weeks is dated and viewers now either want scripted reality or a talent/ reality hybrid.

Big Brother is just a load of rubbish the ratings won't be that great, because nobody is really interested in the show anymore hence why Channel Four axed it.

Glenn A, are you a fan of Big Brother or have you ever been a fan of Big Brother before? If you used to be a fan but dont like it anymore, I was just wondering why you no longer like it? Is it because they have too many wacky characters for your liking or you just got bored with it. I think you should give BB on Channel5 a chance, the new channel has injected some life into this format and shows much more enthusiasm for it than Channel4 did for its last 4 years. Also I know you said you like Geordie Shore which is similar tv so why do you like that but not Big Brother?

Well we'll see. I think it could go either way. The weak competition may just work in its favour tonight.

Nobody is really interested yet DS/Twitter/other websites are full of people talking about the show, which doesn't even TX until 9pm.

It's good for viewer choice at the end of the day isn't it? I see from your posting history that you like EastEnders, which I find to be miserable as sin and extremely boring. But I accept that people do like it and there's a place for it so you won't catch me blasting it at every given opportunity.

I'm not sure their rights would be anything like that restrictive. I doubt many shows have a limit on the number of times you can show an episode.

Every show has a limit on how many times you can show an episode - and the shows from US cable usually only allow them one repeat on the original broadcast channel.

Network shows are slightly less restrive but I think it's around 4 screenings per episode within the week of broadcast (not including plus one), while most original shows are around the same. It's all very well renegotiating some of their local content but the concept begins to fall apart as soon as it comes to a show where they don't have the rights to show it again on 4Seven.

I think a certain poster is going to be predictably riled by those comments!

EDIT:

I'm out tonight, going to miss the launch show. Not impressed by the character teasers though so might give the whole thing a miss actually.

I have enjoyed the BBC coverage of the Jubilee all weekend, even the pagent..I really don't know what the fuss was about it was just a bit of fluff and boats..I thought it was funny seeing Anneka Rice getting soaked trying to be kind about the smudged art on display in the rain..lol..I was mistaken as I thought the BBC produced the Sunday pagent, but I have been told on DS it was pooled coverage for all broadcasters but I think the BBC coverage of the pagent was ok shame about the weather, and yeah they could have picked a few better presenters during the other fluff items but it was what it was and it was ok in my opinion nothing to foam at the mouth at, The concert was quite remarkable and I think the BBC redeemed itself after a such a negative reaction to the pagent on Sunday, and they have done brilliantly today too, I can't comment on ITV or Sky coverage because I haven't watched any of it..but they seem to have done well by all the praise I have read and well done to them...I happy with what I watched!..
